This is a 3-day class for Climbing Instructor training. Students must actively participate in all 3 days. Prior experience not necessary.
Trained Instructors of BSA climbing/rappelling activities are capable, exercise good judgment, dependable, safety conscious, and works well with others. Must be currently trained in BSA Youth Protection, State AB-506 compliant, and registered with BSA. Willing to be active, and committed to supporting Unit/District/Council events. Must attend all days of training sessions, and meet proficiency requirement at the approval of Trainer.
September 9th, Saturday, Day One, LB-Seabase, Classroom Instruction, “Ground School”. Instruction on: equipment, knots, EDGE, Merit Badge, equipment care, anchor systems, health, and safety, dealing with fear, age-appropriate guidelines, commands and techniques, Plan, and Setup for climbing.
September 10th, Sunday: Day 2 “On Rock”, Stoney Point
Practical time on rock. Anchor systems - practical, Rappelling, Climbing, Belaying, and Rescue techniques.
September 16th, Saturday: Day 3 “Final Exam – On Rock”, Location TBD (Stoney Point, Joshua Tree, Barton Flats)
