Lifestyles for the Disabled
Lifestyles began operating in 1994 through the collaboration of parents, community organizations, local business people and a group of developmentally disabled adults (Program Participants). Each group recognized the need to develop programs that provide participants with realistic work settings and experiences within the Staten Island community and beyond.
Having served the developmentally disabled population of Staten Island for over 25 Years, Lifestyles continues to strive to offer more diverse and unique services. Lifestyles started as an agency which served four adults and families and now serves over 400.
Joe Gentile Sr.
Joseph Gentile Sr. was proud of his Staten Island heritage. Joe was born in Rosebank, grew up in South Beach and settled with his wife Ann and two children JoAnn and Joseph in Grant City. More than anything Joe loved two things in life, his family and golf. Joe “Papi” Gentile was an avid Golfer, who was a member of the Shawn Hicks Golf Club and well known in the golf community. He was admired by his peers for his calm approach and knowledge of the game, as well as, his ability to improve the skill of others. Nothing made him happier than seeing their development.
Today we celebrate his life in the Lifestyles for the Disabled and Joe Gentile Memorial Golf Outing! “Papi” would certainly be proud of all of his family and friends continuing a tradition of working hard together on a Golf Tournament that is giving back to others.
The Joe Gentile Family acknowledges the mission and work ethic of Lifestyles for the Disabled and supports their effort of providing the developmentally disabled in “Creating a World of Opportunities.”
