I am so excited to be participating in the 2023 Chicago triathlon and even more excited for the opportunity to fundraiser for special Olympics! Getting involved in triathlons has reignited my love for sport and inclusion - something everyone should have access to. Special Olympics creates opportunities for us all to celebrate in sport. I am hoping to raise $500 by the race and hope you will support me in any way you can! Thank you so much! Luke

Gerstell Academy's Junior Class of 2024 would like to be generous with our time, talents, and treasures to give back and support a good cause. In the past years, Gerstell students have had the privilege of volunteering with the Special Olympics. However, since COVID, it has been difficult to keep this tradition alive. In order to continue our support of this wonderful organization, we would like to create a fundraiser and donate all proceeds to the Special Olympics.

The motivation behind starting this fundraiser rests in the simple compelling purpose of making a positive impact on the community. The simplicity behind this motivating reason is evident, though, it is still profound. The Special Olympics is an excellent cause which supports a wonderful community based objective while allowing all members of our wonderful country to contribute to this event.I could not be happier to be a part of it.Let’s go Windsor - Essex, Ontario!
Hi there! My name is Maike Schwarz, and I love taking pictures in my free time. I also have an older sister named Svenja, who was born prematurely and is therefore mentally disabled, but physically very able. This Christmas card project is where these two worlds meet: a photo card with a message. Special Olympics (the world’s largest sports organization for anyone with intellectual and physical disabilities) has been the light of our lives for quite some time. Svenja has been gifted natural talent, mixed with her hard work, for sports. Last year, she made it to the Germany Track & Field team and went to the World Special Olympics Games in Abu Dhabi, where she won two gold medals. As you can imagine, this was the most amazing experience for her and our family, and for every other athlete at this event. This year has been a difficult and confusing time for many of us. Through it all, I’ve seen my sister and many other disabled individuals struggle in their own way, and for Svenja it was difficult to stop going to her sport events, which used to give her structure, meaning, emotional release and happiness. Special Olympics had to cancel most of their events, which is why I decided to try and support them from how I can: through photos. I’ve dedicated some time to take these Christmas pictures / cards and asked the households for a small donation to SO in return. If you would like to contribute to this as well, please follow the fundraiser link / QR code below. However, please know that the biggest gift is spreading awareness and having an even bigger fan base!! Thank you for reading this, and hopefully for spreading the word about the Special Olympic impact!

Hello everybody! My name is Marc, I was born and raised in Cologne, Germany and am very thrilled to announce that this summer, I will embark on the most ambitious athletic endeavor of my life. I will ride down by bicycle the whole 3900 km/2400 miles of Route 66, from the shores of Lake Michigan in Chicago to the Pacific Coast in Los Angeles. My journey will take me through the green forests and pastures of the Midwest, the unsparing deserts of the Southwest and all the vibrant, culturally enriched cities along the way. I am dedicating my athletic efforts to Special Olympics, a highly respected non-profit organization that empowers people with Intellectual Disabilities through the transformative power and joy of sport. It is active all around the globe, offering opportunities to more than three million athletes on six continents. The donations are used by Special Olympics to finance sport activities for those that are not able to be included or are even actively excluded from regular sport programs. While athletic activities for non-disabled people have a strong stance in society and are available at almost every corner, special needs based sport programs are heavily underrepresented and underfunded. For people with Intellectual Disabilities, sport is a privilege that only few are lucky enough to enjoy, even if it has major therapeutic value. Special Olympics’ programs are the only possibility for many of its athletes to participate in athletic activity and experience the joys and benefits of sports. Specifically, your donation would be used for even more than inclusive sport programs. Special Olympics also provides large-scale health screenings in areas in which people with disabilities have restricted access to healthcare and educates coaches on special needs training in an effort to encourage inclusion beyond its own projects. I therefore sincerely invite you to support Special Olympics’ mission by donating whatever amount you deem appropriate. No matter how seemingly small your contribution might be, it is through a collective effort that we will be able to support equity, inclusion, and equal access to challenge and opportunity. No matter if you choose to make a donation, spread the word about my cause or are simply cheering me on along on my journey, I am very much thankful for any kind of support. Let’s embark on this journey together and let’s make it one worth remembering! It is with the saddest regret we announce the passing of Marian Jackson. She was genuine, compassionate, and kind to everyone no matter the circumstance and wil be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers. Please consider donating to this fundraiser as this would put a smile on her face. Thank you all. -The Jackson and Aderhold Family
