MARCH TO THE ARCH On Oct 1st last year I started my weight loss journey. I told myself, commit for 6 months to change the rest of your life. So far, I’ve lost 190 lbs and have a goal of losing 200lbs by my one year anniversary. I’ve done this the old fashion way by eating healthy and working out. On Oct 1st, I plan to walk 15 miles from my doorstep to the foot of the arch. Please help me to celebrate my one year anniversary and donate to Special Olympics. This is such a wonderful organization and getting more involved is my next mission. I have a compassion and an empathy for those with disabilities and their families. I believe in the power of sport to transcend difficulty and limitation by providing joy and unity. I have setup this fundraiser for the Special Olympics. My goal is to raise $300 by August 31, 2020. I am pairing this effort with a personal pursuit to run 150 miles by August 31, 2020 or approximately 20 miles a week at $2 a mile. This effort is also a personal motive to run for something that is greater than myself. Any contribution you can make would be greatly appreciated - even if it’s just $2. I have to phrase this carefully, as not all the rights to do this fund raiser have been gained. Recently a performer and singer died. His music has been climbing the charts since then. He once did a performance for Special Olympics to raise money for the organization. I have a story idea on what may have happened to him after his death. He ended up in Oz, which is referred to in one of his songs. His also deceased writing partner is there. During the course of their time there, they manage to help banish the evil witches from the North and South, with the help of the good witches and the Wizard, of course. The book containing this story would have money from its sale donated to Special Olympics. In addition to the story, there would be illustrations and a music disc containing at least the song he sung for Special Olympics and his hit song, referring to the building of the Emerald City. I can provide you with samples of my writing if you wish. I have not yet contacted the heirs of these musicians yet. I decided to contact you and see if you were interested first. In memory of our sister, Kathleen Gibbons, we are raising funds for an organization that made a difference in her life. She won three Special Olympics medals in high school, helped dedicate a Special Olympics stamp, and was a friend of Tim Shriver, President of Special Olympics. I started out with the idea to run the Nationwide Children’s marathon as a way to challenge myself mentally and physically. I quickly realized that my effort and time can be better put to use by donating to a charitable organization. The special olympics provides individuals with intellectual disabilities the ability to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and promote growth of friendship and family. Please join me on my mission and help me reach my goal listed above. I feel that our resources can best be distributed to others and organizations to help those who need it the most. Thank you!

An athlete is an athlete is an athlete. Anyone who chooses to move, to play, and to compete through sport deserves the opportunity to do that with the best equipment, the best facilities, and with the full support of a community. WoodWind Park is dedicated to using play to support causes bigger than us. There are so many very important people in our lives who love to engage in sport and they have been able to do that because the Special Olympics has provided an opportunity for them to do so. We support volunteers, families and the athletes themselves and we truly could not think of a better entity to support with the proceeds from our WinterFest Play it Forward Snow Obstacle Race than the Special Olympics. We will be physically playing it forward on Saturday, February 19th in Otter Creek, WI on the hills and ice rink at WoodWind Park, but we will encourage those who cannot attend in person to support participants with online donations.
