Most who know me know my biggest passion is advocating for mental health. Why? Because I am 1 in 4. 1 in 4 adults living with a mental health disorder. In fact, I’ve been living with it since I was 15. Did you know 1 in 5 youth live with a mental health disorder? Most people struggling with mental health symptoms fear stigma and judgement, therefore there is an average treatment delay of 10 years from the onset of symptoms. Something as small as having one trusting person to talk to can be the connection needed to reduce substance use, self harm and suicide. I am asking for your support in my fundraising to help connect members of our community to the proper channels for bettering their health and continue to support work that normalizes mental health needs. The programs covered under this category strive to connect community members, adults and youth, to: proper care, reduce stigma, develop coping skills, education, find professional and peer support as well as focus on all aspects for a healthy well being. We could not do what we do or Live United without YOU! Team CONNECT is fundraising to support a healthy and socially connected community! This Team imagines a community where all members are healthy and can stay that way. Join or support this Team if you are passionate about physical and mental health, and meaningful connections that improve quality of life for all. The strategies under this objective include improving access to prevention and intervention programming for mental health, and services that focus on physical well being, as well as improving connections for at-risk community members to community resources. Some of the indicators of success for this objective include decreasing suicide in the Great Rivers region and increasing youth resilience.
This past year has opened my heart and eyes to all the challenges so many people experience. If you have been blessed, please consider helping others who don't have enough food to eat, a place to live, are living with mental illness, addiction or other difficulties. It is more blessed to give then receive. Thank you for your consideration!
