Frederick Rosewater To my warrior father who reminded us all of how precious every day, hour, minute is in this amazing life that is so easy to take for granted. Your legacy will live on as a caring healthcare provider always going over and beyond for your patients(evenings, weekends, etc.), a wonderful husband and supportive father and finally your ability to find humor in the face of this cruel and devastating disease. Farewell Starry-eyed visions Elusive dreams Forever muted Dawn’s waking sirens Piercing the stillness Sweet cries caressing the sullen skies Bidding farewell Farewell -Kathryn In Loving Memory of Frederick Rosewater Frederick Rosewater battled Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis for over a decade. He was a warrior against this unseen enemy(especially the last few months) until the day that he passed December 28th 2022. We consider ourselves incredibly fortunate to have him in our lives as long as we did. He had this incredible zest for life and living including a love of reading, traveling to dozens of countries, studying immunology and the brain, serving as a passionate healthcare provider and truly caring for his patients, listening to classical music, opera and learning languages. He had a wonderful sense of humor and truly lived in the moment, like none other. He had an amazing 50+ year marriage with his wife who enriched and filled his life with joy and laughter. We have just emerged out of the IPF battlefield and have seen first-hand the wretched suffering this disease inflicts. The slow drown went on for months and it was unbelievably difficult to witness. It was jarring, has scarred our memories and, unfortunately, is something that none of us will ever forget. Please donate in his name to instill hope in others who are suffering or watching family members or friends suffer. It is probably one of the more ruthless diseases out there and needs to be tamed. Your support is greatly appreciated. Our goal is to give sufferers the opportunity to live longer lives and eventually help find a cure. -Family and Friends of Frederick Rosewater Please donate in the name of Frederick Rosewater, so that a cure and/or treatments to prolong life for sufferers of this terrible disease can be found. Frederick Q Vogel Please donate in the name of Frederick Q Vogel, so that a cure and/or treatments to prolong life for sufferers of this terrible disease can be found. Captain Frederick Quirin Vogel passed away at home in Point Pleasant, NJ, with his family by his side on January 27, 2020; his valiant battle with pulmonary fibrosis over. Fred was born a Leo on August 11, 1947, in Plainfield, NJ, to the late Anne and Robert Vogel. Raised in Cranford, NJ, Freddy attended Cranford HS where he excelled in sports, especially his favorite, baseball. Fred continued to play baseball at Gettysburg College, graduating in 1969. There, he forged a true fraternity with his Sigma Chi brothers. They remained fast friends; the stories getting better every telling. Fred also married his college sweetheart, Barb, in 1969. Last November, they celebrated 50 wonderful years together; a love story that inspired all who know them. He enlisted in the US Navy after college and served in Naval Intelligence at Clark AFB in the Philippines where he and Barb acquired a love for scuba diving. On return to the US, he was selected for Navy Officer Candidate School and went on to serve 34 years including time in the Naval Reserves, reaching the officer rank of Captain. He was recalled to active duty in Washington, D.C. during the 1990’s middle east conflicts and after 9/11, served at the Defense Intelligence Agency, FBI, NSA, Homeland Security and the Pentagon. At retirement, he was Deputy Director for Intelligence at DIA, Terrorism Analysis Division with this final commendation, “Despite major obstacles, his work resulted in a significant contribution to the protection of United States forces worldwide.” Fred earned his MBA at Drexel University and his civilian career included financial positions at Siemens, Computervision, Burroughs and Equitable Life. He most enjoyed his post-retirement gig as host and story-teller at the Sea Crest by the Sea, the inn that he and Barb owned in Spring Lake, NJ. Fred was very proud of the bond he shared with his daughter Leigh, forged when she was a toddler and he a ‘stay-at-home dad’. He shared his love of baseball with Chris while coaching countless little league games and travelling to high school and college baseball games around the country. Fred especially loved his grandchildren learning to swim in the family pool and the annual family trips to the Cayman Islands. He got great joy from tinkering in the garage with his grandkids, taking apart or fixing everything from boats to toasters. His positivity and can-do attitude made him a great role model for his entire family. Pop-pop was always quick to tell his family how much he loved them. Fred was a man of deep faith; he walked the walk and talked the talk. First at Calvary Lutheran in Cranford and then Holy Trinity in Manasquan where he served in many volunteer capacities and impacted many souls. Fred is survived by his wife, Barbara Wold Vogel; children, Leigh (Michael) DeMarco, and Christopher (Jill) Vogel; four cherished grandchildren, Max, Evan, Nels, and Lacy; sister Dale (Michael) Malekoff and brother Charles (Gail) Vogel, brother-in-law Ted Wold; 8 (grand) nieces and nephews and many cousins. He is predeceased by his sister Barbara Ann (Neil) Koopman. Fred was a gentle, loving, and generous husband, father, grandfather, friend, leader and mentor. He is dearly missed. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Sunday, February 9th at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 6 Osborn Avenue, Manasquan, NJ. Reception following. Interment will be private. Dr. Gabriel Olivella, M.D. Thank you for visiting our treasured family member's page in his honor. Moving forward, we ask that you take a moment to read of this remarkable loved one who dedicated his life to the wellness of others in many communities as well as his very own. In unfortunate circumstances, Pulmonary Fibrosis has appeared in the diagnoses of other family members past, as well as his. In true fashion, a humble man, not one of materialistic things but one of pure silent influence and medical leadership, on behalf of his family and loved ones we would ask for you to donate in the name of Dr. Gabriel Olivella, M.D., so that a cure and/or treatments to prolong life for sufferers of this terrible disease can be found. Gabriel migrated to the United States from Colombia, South America in 1968 to Chicago, Illinois. He successfully completed his medical education and residency there while continuing his career as a Board Certified Family Practice Physician in Orlando, Florida. For many years there, he thrived working within two innovating hospital systems. He took a courageous move to open his own family practice in a community in need. Even in his final decade, he brought his branded loving medical care to a church congregation-treated those without a dollar in hand- free of charge. His timeline includes a list of titles that many only dream to achieve once in their lifetime. U.S. citizen, U.S. Army Reserve Captain, and honored Outstanding U.S. Public Health System Physician. With these strong positions and responsibilities we would think to associate an intimidating character. Quite the opposite. The gentleman was a warm kind hearted husband, father, brother, and friend who took on these roles with stride- always creating a home to feel love in, to dance with, to know what a welcome and healing was with an open door policy all in one. Today, his legacy standard is set high among those in his family within two generations who are following in his footsteps in all forms of medical and community practice. His incomparable rule of not only living for himself- but to care for others in every way shape or form until cured is the lesson he leaves on the way to live. Our soldier of wellness and ambassador of love passed away of Pulmonary Fibrosis, July 26, 2022 at the age of 87. Thank you for your donation. On December 24, 2022, my father lost his battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis, a rare and horrendous disease that slowly stole his capacity to do what is most basic to all of us- to breath. My Dad lived his life with passion and zest. He was a wonderful husband, father, and friend; an athlete, reader, traveler, and lover of nature and animals. He touched the lives of many people and meant the world to us. Please consider donating to the research for a cure of pulmonary fibrosis. No person should have to suffer from this vile illness, and no family should have to lose precious time and memories with their loved ones. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. All proceeds go towards: • Finding effective treatments and a cure for pulmonary fibrosis• Advocating for the pulmonary fibrosis community • Promoting disease awareness • Providing a compassionate environment for patients and their families Please donate and together we can help those living with pulmonary fibrosis and the families of those we have lost. All donations are tax-deductible and every dollar raised goes to help support the mission of the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. If you cannot make a donation at this time, please forward this e-mail and link to everyone you know. Post this on your Facebook and Twitter pages. Every donation counts, no matter what the amount. The loss of a loved one is devastating. Yet, we are always reminded by our hearts – how lucky we have been to know those that we love even in our loss. Thank you for your thoughtfulness. Your generosity and support is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions please contact Jake Meding at jmeding@pulmonaryfibrosis.org or (312)854-2627
Geeta Aroon Mankad, 75, of Blue Bell, Pennsylvania passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 with her family by her side after a prolonged battle with pulmonary fibrosis. It would be wrong to say that Geeta lost her battle with pulmonary fibrosis because she remained strong and never stopped fighting. No matter the challenge, she was determined to live her life on her terms and to the fullest extent – she traveled the world, and most recently completed the Chardham Yatra and visited Pashupathinath Temple in Nepal (over 11,000 feet in elevation) to fulfill her religious aspiration and lifelong dream of visiting all of the 12 holiest Hindu sites devoted to Lord Shiva. The place where she was most at peace was at the Dattatreya Mandir in Nareshwar, to which she would visit on every trip to India. It is by her example that we learned what resilience, perseverance and kindness truly look like. She was officially diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis almost 10 years ago. She fought bravely and outlived the normal prognosis of 3-5 years. Unfortunately, pulmonary fibrosis has no cure and there are very limited treatment options available for patients with this disease. To celebrate her life and legacy - we ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF). A donation to PFF will help to raise awareness, provide money for research and support for families managing this disease. If you have other causes to support, consider this a reminder to make that donation. Thank you for your love, support and thoughtfulness.
