Please donate in the name of Angelo Gonzalez, so that a cure and/or treatments to prolong life for sufferers of this terrible disease can be found. Angelo Gonzalez, of Wesley Chapel, FL. passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 80, on August 10, 2024, after a courageous 8-year battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He was born at home, September 24,1943, on East 102nd St. in NYC, with the welcoming embrace of his Puerto Rican parents Matilde and Eduardo Gonzalez. He was number seven of eight beloved siblings who shared a tapestry of memories filled with laughter, positive influence and camaraderie with Eddie, Mary, Al, Carlos, Miguel, George and John. In 1961, he graduated from the High School of Performing Arts in New York City, where he majored in music. As a student he learned to play the saxophone and clarinet and had the honor of playing at Carnegie Hall. Being raised in a family of service to others, his passion for learning and community service led him to obtain a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1974 from Hunter College, NYC. In 1976, he earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the Graduate School of Social Work at Hunter College. Over his long illustrious career, with a strong social work background and building collaborative relationships, he began as director with the Recruitment and Training Program. He helped young men and women prepare for jobs in the construction industry, through various union apprenticeship programs. In 1978, he was director of the residential and non-residential programs at The South Bronx Job Corp Center for youth obtaining there GED and participating in vocational trainings. Later he served and excelled as Senior Level Executive with expertise in non-profit administration, corporate affairs and fundraising. He was a pillar and proud leader in the Hispanic and Non-Hispanic communities throughout New York City, New Jersey and Miami. He was able to accomplish his goals of developing strategies to bring quality of life to those less fortunate. He was Executive Director of Aspira of New York; Community Relations Manager, Coors Company, NJ; Executive Director of “La Casa de Don Pedro,” the largest Hispanic community-based organization in Newark, NJ; Community Relations Manager at Time Warner, NYC; Vice-President of the Institutional Advancement at Miami Museum of Science; Vice President of Financial Development at YMCA, Miami; Program Director at Cuban American National Council, Miami; finally, choosing to host international students at home with his wife Gladys, as he transitioned to retirement. His heart was huge and always made others feel loved, respected and appreciated both in his personal and professional life. Angelo had a passion for music, which included classical, oldies, romance, Latin and jazz. He especially enjoyed listening to songs from Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennet among so many artists that touched his soul. He was a true New Yorker, always cheering the Knicks, Yankees and NY Giants. He was a great fan of tennis and enjoyed watching other sports. He loved the beach, going to the theatre, cooking, entertaining his beloved friends and family at home. He was a man of faith and loved attending service. With all his roles, responsibilities and contributions to society, he was most proud of being father to his cherished children Armando and Elena, his daughter-in-law Melissa and his precious two-year-old granddaughter, Isabella May, who calls him Pop Pop and who will carry on his legacy. In 1995, Angelo married his friend and sweetheart Gladys, who was a social worker and educator. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter and strong support for each other till the final days of his life. Throughout the years they traveled the world and enjoyed the company of friends, neighbors and family, with faith being the central core of their 29 years of marriage. Angelo is predeceased by his parents Matilde Vasquez Gonzalez, Juan Eduardo Gonzalez and his brothers, Eddie, Carlos, Miguel and Alberto (Al). Anna Vertlib

Anna Vertlib This is a story of our beloved Anna Vertlib: She was born in poor but tight knit and humble family who suffered a lot during Holocaust with her father being the only survivor. He told her: you must get education and provide for your family. And that she did, by getting two degrees and eventually working at government bank (very prestigious at that time). But at the very young age, she begun experiencing tragic losses. Her father at 16, at 24 she lost best friend and at 19 she lost her first baby and at 31 she lost her 2nd child. These losses would have broken anyone else but not only she emerged from this but she persevered and and that’s how my wife Nadezhda (Hope in Russian) came into the world. Anna immigrated to America in 1991 and there was no better place for her than Cherry Hill, NJ where she lived happily for 33 years until she passed away on July 30th, 2024. She battled courageously and consistently through a lot of terrible diseases but the primary one being Pulmonary Fibrosis (also known as Scleroderma) and back in Nov 2021 after being diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer, doctors gave her 3 months to live. But she persevered and went through all kinds of treatments including chemotherapy in order to be present at granddaughter's bat mitzvah and many more happy and joyous occasions for almost 3 years. I remember my early morning drives with her to hospitals whether it was scans or chemotherapy. Through this and so many other displays of courageous behavior, she taught me and others around her so much about perseverance and showing up no matter what. Please donate in the name of Anna Vertlib, so that a cure and/or treatments to prolong life for sufferers of this terrible disease can be found. Anne Stone

Anne Stone In April of 2022, Anne went to the doctor because she'd been experiencing shortness of breath. Her regular physician was concerned that it was a pulmonary embolism; instead, after several days in the hospital and a variety of tests, we learned it was idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. "Idiopathic" means they're unable to pinpoint a cause. "Pulmonary fibrosis" means that it's a permanent, progressive scarring of her lungs. Anne tried two different experimental medications intended to stop the progression of her disease, but unfortunately it continued to advance. At the end of June 2023, her doctor indicated that it was time to begin hospice. On October 1, 2023 she passed away. Anne was an incredible mother, always advocating for her children and grandchildren, as well as a beloved sister and friend. She is deeply loved and missed. Please consider donating to help find a cure for this disease, so that no other families have to suffer through this unfortunate journey in the future. All proceeds go towards: • Finding effective treatments and a cure for pulmonary fibrosis• Advocating for the pulmonary fibrosis community • Promoting disease awareness • Providing a compassionate environment for patients and their families Please donate and together we can help those living with pulmonary fibrosis and the families of those we have lost. Anthony "Tony" Cafoncelli

Anthony "Tony" Cafoncelli Doctor Antonio Romulo Cafoncelli died on January 26, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in 1938 to Nelida and Romulo Cafoncelli in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Antonio, known to friends and family as “Tony”, graduated from the Universidad de Buenos Aires Medical School at the age of 21 and worked in various hospitals until moving to Mar del Plata where he did his residency at the Community Hospital where made life-long friends whom he kept in touch with until recently. He had the fondest memories of his residency years riding around the coastal town of Mar del Plata on his motorcycle. He then moved back to Buenos Aires to work at Hospital Peña prior to immigrating to the US. In December 1970, Tony landed in Philadelphia, PA. He arrived wearing a light linen suit (after all it was summer in Argentina!). Upon his arrival in Philadelphia, he was warmly welcomed to his residency at the University of Pennsylvania by C. Everett Koop, who later served as the 13th Surgeon General of the United States. To further hone his specialty, Tony practiced in Wilmington, DE, Atlanta, GA, Charlotte, NC (as Chief Resident), and Chicago, IL. Upon becoming Board Certified in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Tony settled in Charleston, WV in 1980 where he spent the next twenty five years as a driving force behind Thoracic and Cardiovascular Associates, Inc, one of the leading surgical practices in the Mid-Atlantic region at the time. Upon his retirement, Tony completed his Master’s degree in Public Health at WVU. Shortly after, he and his wife, Teresa, relocated to Washington, DC where he interned at the World Health Organization. In addition, Tony taught an epigenetics course at American University’s OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) program. Tony was the definition of a life-long learner. Tony was passionate about his fine rugs, wine, travel, Argentine football, and his family. He had a deep appreciation for and knowledge of Persian & Oriental rugs and would enthusiastically launch into conversations about their intricate craftsmanship. He was a wine connoisseur who loved his Malbecs. He traveled the world with Teresa visiting the wine regions of France, Italy, Spain and Portugal (California snuck in there too!). Their love of travel was infectious and they visited over 30 countries across 5 different continents. In December, Tony saw his beloved Albiceleste win the World Cup for a 3rd time in history. Above all, Tony was devoted to his global network of friends and family. Not a day went by when he did not receive or make a long-distance phone call to tell a funny story or share a friendly rant. We all have countless memories of his animated humor, boisterous laugh and wide-ranging opinions (which he was always happy to share). Although Tony became a doctor at a young age, his most cherished titles were Husband, Father and especially Nono. The children miss Nono’s impish personality, silly jokes and their wide-ranging conversations on numerous topics. Nono will forever be in their hearts and part of who they are. Tony is survived by his wife, Teresa Guzman, his daughter, Anna Cafoncelli and her husband, Joseph Nassif, Teresa’s daughters, Silvia Lucero and Monica Lucero, his most beloved grandchildren, Nícola and Luca Villarino, and Monica’s husband José Villarino. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation in honor of Tony Cafoncelli using the link at the top of this page.
