Rip Kirby Please donate in the name of Lawrence Rip Kirby, so that a cure and/or treatments to prolong life for sufferers of this terrible disease can be found. Lawrence “Rip” Kirby of Rutland, Vermont passed away Saturday, January 4th, 2020 at age 59, surrounded by those he held dearest. Rip was born on October 21, 1960 in Watertown, NY to Lawrence and Yolanda Kirby, and spent most of his childhood in Chazy, NY. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Clarkson University in 1984, and worked at Central Hudson Gas and Electric in Poughkeepsie, NY until he moved to Rutland, VT in 1988. There, he worked as an electrical engineer for VELCO until 2001, and then CVPS/GMP until his retirement in 2017, during which time he earned his Professional Engineering (P.E.) licensure. He then worked as the electrical engineer for the State of Vermont Department of Public Service until his passing. Rip was a captivating and engaging presence. In his free time, he enjoyed playing scrabble and doing crossword puzzles, cooking chili for charity, and writing when a topic moved him. He collected guns and loved classic cars; he prided himself on his ability to recognize the make, model, and year of almost any classic car, and loved to chew the fat with a fellow owner at various regional car shows. He was a wealth of knowledge and had an unmatched sense of humor; he enjoyed nothing more than getting a room full of people laughing. He was a generous, gentle, loving man who will be missed dearly by many. All proceeds go towards: • Finding effective treatments and a cure for pulmonary fibrosis• Advocating for the pulmonary fibrosis community • Promoting disease awareness • Providing a compassionate environment for patients and their families Please donate and together we can help those living with pulmonary fibrosis and the families of those we have lost. Go to Robert Ezykowich

Robert Ezykowich

Robert Ezykowich On September 7, 2019, I watched my Dad go peacefully and be free from all of his suffering. He was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary fibrosis about 10 years ago and I watched his health decline gradually. In its simplest sense, pulmonary fibrosis (PF) means scarring in the lungs. Over time, the scar tissue can destroy the normal lung and make it hard for oxygen to get into your blood. Low oxygen levels (and the stiff scar tissue itself) can cause you to feel short of breath, particularly when walking and exercising. Pulmonary fibrosis isn’t just one disease. It is a family of more than 200 different lung diseases that all look very much alike. The PF family of lung diseases falls into an even larger group of diseases called the interstitial lung diseases (also known as ILD), which includes all of the diseases that have inflammation and/or scarring in the lung. I remember reading about this disease and the life expectancy was 3-5 years. In 2016, he received the gift of life through a lung transplant. Watching him breathe without oxygen and without struggle was the biggest blessing, and something we had imagined for so long. The post transplant life was not easy. After a few short months of good days, he started to have lousy ones again. The months & years that followed were filled with trips to the hospital for stints of pneumonia and infections. Each trip to the hospital would be more of a setback, and in 2018 a stroke bringing on even more issues. The last year, he spent almost 7/12 months in the hospital for different things. My mom didn’t leave his side for one single second - a true testament to their marriage and love. Watching my father pass was one of the hardest things, but knowing he is free from the suffering he endured for so long is providing us comfort during this time. I am a huge supporter of transplants, as that allowed me borrowed time with my Dad, but ultimately, we need to find a cure for pulmonary fibrosis. It’s devastating and heartbreaking. My Dad was a fighter, Superman, a PF warrior, and the greatest man I will ever know. Please donate in the name of Robert Ezykowich, so that a cure and/or treatments to prolong life for sufferers of this terrible disease can be found. Go to Robert Reid

Robert Reid

Seven years ago my dad, Robert Allen Reid, better known as Bob and occasionally Bobert, passed away after a three year battle with pulmonary fibrosis. The amount of support he needed, especially toward the end, was extensive. Looking back I am amazed by the community which my dad had. Family friends, and home doctors, came in for weekly visits. My mom even took time off, and eventually took leave, from her job so she could care for him. We were lucky to have the resources to do this. However, I also saw the toll which that took on all of us and the lasting impacts those three years had on myself and those I love. I remember how desperate I was for him to get better and how hard it was to accept that his illness was terminal. I scoured the internet to little avail, only finding far-out success stories from less than credible sources. Unable and unwilling to discern fact from fiction, in sixth grade I made a strong case for why he should begin a raw vegan diet. Needless to say my meat-loving dad declined. My hope is that through this page, and your donations, further support can be brought to those diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis and give people like my dad more effective treatments or a cure. Please donate in the name of Robert Reid, so that a cure and/or treatments to prolong life for sufferers of this terrible disease can be found.
