Kerry Carlee Kerry struggled for many years with IPF. He had a double lung transplant in 2018. Recovery was difficult for Kerry and he was never fully well but he pushed himself every day as he wanted so much to live. His determination gave him nearly five more years - time in which he got to see his children continue to succeed at their various endeavors and to meet the two grandchildren born after the transplant. Early diagnosis might have helped but his IPF was end stage before his wonderful doctor, Dr. Caesar Agagan, helped figure out the problem. Kerry lost his battle on July 7, 2023, but was so very grateful for the extra time his transplant gave us. Our family is so shattered by his passing- but you can help us honor the memory of this brave, compassionate and courageous man and help others suffering from this disease with your contribution. Beth Hunley Beth Hunley passed away in peace on Friday February 24th, 2023. Beth was an inspiration to all, whether it was to her family, friends, or perfect strangers who followed along her lung transplant journey. After receiving her pulmonary fibrosis diagnosis in 2014 she started down the long road of researching hospitals and then waiting for a bilateral lung transplant. She began her journey with the University of Michigan Ann Arbor and was on their list for 4 years and 1 dry run call until she moved programs to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. She received a set of lungs on November 26th, 2019 after waiting only 4 months. Beth then spent 75 days in the hospital recovering from the operation. It was a grueling fight but she fought to honor the donor and to get home to her family whom she loved more than anything. She was extremely active spreading the word about PF and advocating for everyone to become a donor. From interviewing fellow transplant recipients and posting their stories to her Lung Journey Facebook page, to pushing her hometown paper to publish articles every April to spread awareness about the importance of organ donation– she was not the type to sit it out and not speak up about what she found important. Beth had just over 3 blessed years with her new lungs, some high highs and low lows, but she always kept her smile and unending optimism. A beloved wife, mother, grandma, sister, and lung transplant warrior; Beth will be missed by many but her legacy will outlast us all. Gregory Reed Lockhart (May 30, 1944-September 22, 2019) Greg was a Loving Son, Brother, Father to Ian and Shannon, Grandfather to Jaden and an Amazing Friend and Mentor to many. He enjoyed traveling the world with the Love of his life Cindy and together, along with their band of friends, broke bread and immersed themselves in the arts and cycling. As many of you know Greg had the unfortunate diagnoses of IPF (Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis). This debilitating disease robbed him of being able to live the active life he had grown accustomed to. It Literally took his breath away! The occurrence of this disease has doubled in the last decade. IPF has no known cure at this time but there are promising trials suggesting that there are effective drugs on the horizon. We want to Help! In honor of Greg, we will be accepting donations for the IPF Foundation the evening of the memorial.
