Sally and Bo Willis Dear Family and Friends, As many of you know, my wonderful Mom, Sally Willis passed away in May 2014. She was my hero, my rock, and my best friend. I want very much to honor her life, legacy, and indomitable spirit by raising money and awareness for Pulmonary Fibrosis, a cause very near and dear to Mom’s heart. On New Year’s Eve 2008, Mom lost the love of her life, Bo Willis, my incredible Dad, to Pulmonary Fibrosis. Her life was never the same. Over 30,000 people worldwide are diagnosed with PF every year. It is a progressive and severely debilitating lung disease, which slowly robs people of their livelihood and independence. It kills most patients within 3 years of initial diagnosis. Currently, there is no cure. This fall, I want to unite my love of the great outdoors: (mountains and hiking to be exact!) with finding a cure for PF, a cause that was incredibly meaningful to my Mom, especially during the difficult years following my Dad’s death. On September 8th, I will be lacing up my smelly hiking boots and over the course of the next 12 days, I will circumnavigate Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps. My journey will take me through 3 countries and over 100 miles. I hope you will consider honoring my Mom and her love for my Dad by sponsoring me $1 per mile or any other multiple of 100 that you feel is appropriate and make a donation in the name of Sally and Bo Willis to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. PFF is non-profit organization dedicated to offering care and support for those suffering from this deadly disease. I am proud to say I served on PFF’s board for over 6 years. All donations are tax-deductible and every dollar raised goes to help support the mission of the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. Any amount will be greatly appreciated. This will be bittersweet trip for me. Not having my Mom and Dad in my life anymore is deeply sad for me. However, incredible beauty of the mountains will be a source of great comfort and a gentle reminder that my parents are still with me. Thank you. Sharon Cirilli In February 2014, Sharon was diagnosed with a genetic form of Pulmonary Fibrosis, an autoimmune disorder that causes lung tissue to become damaged and scarred over time. As Pulmonary Fibrosis worsens, those who are affected become progressively short of breath, with their quality of life greatly decreasing. Currently, the lung damage caused by this disease can not be repaired, but medications and therapies are prescribed with the hope to ease the various symptoms and side effects. In the grand scheme of things, very little is known about this deadly disease, its progression, and whether or not there are specific genetic markers for the 200+ variations. Sharon ultimately passed from complications of pneumonia due to her Pulmonary Fibrosis. Over only a year and a half, her family and friends watched the disease become increasingly visible and rapidly deteriorate her health. At 63 years old, she went from a happy, new retiree with big plans of relaxing, and traveling with her husband to someone who was imprisoned to an oxygen machine, day and night, struggling to breathe on her own.Sharon was more than just a caring person--she was an amazing wife and mother to three beautiful children. Not to mention, she touched the lives of thousands throughout her 38 year teaching career. She was an extremely gifted sewer and spent much of her time crafting bags, dresses, and pillowcases to donate to Little Dresses for Africa, St. Judes, and Warm-Up America (among others). Her life was full of compassion, her sense of humor was contagious, and her kind heart was truly felt by everyone who knew her.In Sharon's honor, her family and friends are seeking to raise $25,000 to donate to The Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. Donations will benefit those who have succumbed to the disease, are currently fighting it, and will face Pulmonary Fibrosis in the future. Sharon is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 39 years, Alan Cirilli, as well as her three children (Alan II, Anthony, and Ashley M.) and daughter in law (Ashley E.). All proceeds go towards: • Finding effective treatments and a cure for pulmonary fibrosis• Advocating for the pulmonary fibrosis community • Promoting disease awareness • Providing a compassionate environment for patients and their families Please donate and together we can help those living with pulmonary fibrosis and the families of those we have lost.
