Phyllis Netherland Phyllis Netherland, 75, of Gaithersburg, MD, formerly of Beaver, Pennsylvania, died peacefully in her home on April 29, 2019. Phyllis was a grand lady who was constantly seeking enrichment in her life. She was a well-respected radiologic technologist by training and pursued advanced certification as a dedicated MRI technologist later in her career; she was an active member of Toast Masters; an entrepreneur and a member of the Beaver County Historical Society prior to moving to Gettysburg, PA in 2004. Soon after that she became very active in the Adams County Arts Council; a director of the Gettysburg Arts Festival’s Fringe Festival for many years and one of the founding members of her local support group of the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. She took her message of educating the public about PF to the airwaves where she was interviewed twice on a local radio station in hopes of reaching those in need. She had dear friends in many places, made new friends with a smile, loved to travel and most of all spend time with her family. One of her friends described her this way: A big smile on a super-pretty face and a look that says, "How wonderful to see you—nothing could make me happier!" Pramila Santra was a beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt who devoted her entire life to caring for others. I was lucky enough to call her my mom. She meant the world to me, and I miss her every day. She always believed in me and taught me to be persistent to achieve my goals. She taught me to advocate for what I know is right but also taught me to be gentle, caring, and forgiving towards people who matter to me. My mom was strong, and fought hard for over 10 years with IPF. We are grateful for the time we had with her, which was, in part, made possible by the initially experimental, then more widely available, treatment she received (Esbriet). Continuous research in the field will expand these options and improve the duration and quality of life for those affected by IPF and their loved ones. Honoring Pravin Shah This year marks the 15th anniversary of dad's passing. After a year-long battle, he lost his fight with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), a devastating disease with no known cause or cure. To honor my dad, I've participated in the Percy Sutton 5K several times over the years—including once when I was seven months pregnant! This year, I'll once again be running in his memory. Although I wasn't able to get into the official Percy Sutton 5K in New York City, I'll be running the same day and time here in Seattle. James will once again be joining me, and I'm especially excited that Arya will be joining us. As I did the first time I ran, I'm raising funds to support research, awareness, and hope for individuals and families affected by IPF. Randy Thompson, Sr Randy Thompson passed away in September of 2012, but will always be remembered as an exceptional father, husband, grandfather, friend, and pharmacist. He truly was everyone’s #1 fan and greatest cheerleader. Randy never left home without his camera or his unforgettable smile that could light up any room. Rashmi Modi passed on January 5, 2025 due to complications stemming from pulmonary fibrosis. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Rashmi Modi, who left this world peacefully on January 5, 2025, at the age of 74. Rashmi lived a beautiful life devoted to her family, friends, and the joys of creating a warm and loving home. Born in Surat, India, Rashmi was the youngest of four children. She was raised in Surat before embarking on a life-changing journey when she married Kamal Modi. Together, they immigrated to the United States in 1979, beginning their journey in New York before settling in Old Bridge, NJ where they built a life filled with love and laughter for over 40 years. Rashmi’s determination and nurturing spirit shaped the lives of her children, Purvi and Kaushal, whom she prioritized above all else, ensuring they received the education and guidance to achieve great success. Rashmi’s love for cooking and experimenting with recipes was matched only by her sweet tooth. She also loved traveling, shopping, and sharing cherished moments with her family and friends. Above all, her grandchildren, Sitaara and Shaan, brought immense joy to her life. Rashmi is survived by her devoted husband Kamal, her beloved children Purvi and Kaushal, her son-in-law Chirag, and her adored grandchildren Sitaara and Shaan. A service to celebrate Rashmi’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, from 1-3 PM EST at Franklin Memorial Park, located at 1800 Route 27, North Brunswick, NJ. Family and friends are welcome to attend to honor her memory and share in her legacy.
