Robert Moore Robert (Bob) was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He fought a difficult battle with pulmonary fibrosis with great courage. Robert (Rob) Stephen Murphy Jr. 62, long-time resident of Mechanicsville, MD and recent resident of McLean, VA passed away in his home on Thursday, November 14, 2019. Rob was born in Malden, Massachusetts to Robert Stephen Murphy Sr. and Diana Mary Murphy. He was the second of five siblings. Dedicated father to Jessica Murphy of McLean, VA and Ashley Murphy of Orlando, FL, Rob’s greatest joy was being an extremely proud, devoted, and loving father. He is survived by his loving siblings, Kevin Murphy, of Edgewater, MD, and Patricia Murphy of Annapolis, MD, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr. and Diana Murphy, as well as his siblings Kathleen Pendleton and Gregory Murphy. An immensely dedicated Christian and member of New Life Church, in LaPlata, MD, Rob had an exceptional faith that manifested itself in his devotion to Jesus Christ, his love for others, his positive attitude, and his endless encouragement of everyone with whom he came into contact. He had a passion for life, treasured spending time with his family, and loved adventure. He enjoyed skydiving, skiing, boating and fishing. Rob was an exceptional marksman, a motorcyclist, a black belt in karate, and was always prepared. A proud American, Rob honorably served as a Sargent in the United States Marine Corps. He was an avid supporter of all veterans and loved his country. Rob had a fulfilling career in the automotive industry and cherished the strong bonds he formed throughout his career, marked by relationships which extended beyond work hours. Rob was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis in 2015 and was a recipient of a lung transplant in September 2018. He was amazed and humbled by the care and dedication of all the professionals of Inova Heart and Vascular Institute in Fairfax, VA. As a grateful recipient of organ donation, he became a Donate Life Ambassador for the Washington Regional Transplant Community. Rob was an amazing soul who shared his love with the world and will be deeply missed by many. Seven years ago my dad, Robert Allen Reid, better known as Bob and occasionally Bobert, passed away after a three year battle with pulmonary fibrosis. The amount of support he needed, especially toward the end, was extensive. Looking back I am amazed by the community which my dad had. Family friends, and home doctors, came in for weekly visits. My mom even took time off, and eventually took leave, from her job so she could care for him. We were lucky to have the resources to do this. However, I also saw the toll which that took on all of us and the lasting impacts those three years had on myself and those I love. I remember how desperate I was for him to get better and how hard it was to accept that his illness was terminal. I scoured the internet to little avail, only finding far-out success stories from less than credible sources. Unable and unwilling to discern fact from fiction, in sixth grade I made a strong case for why he should begin a raw vegan diet. Needless to say my meat-loving dad declined. My hope is that through this page, and your donations, further support can be brought to those diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis and give people like my dad more effective treatments or a cure. Roger Pace Roger was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in 2021. Prior to his diagnosis he loved to walk, work in his garage, go to the beach and take family vacations to Lake George, NY. However, once he was diagnosed, that all changed. He was no longer able to do the things he loved to do because he was oxygen dependent. He lost his sense of freedom and independence. He had multiple hospital admissions, not only for respiratory distress but for multiple bouts of pneumonia, as well as flu, because the steroids to help his airway made him immune compromised. In spite of all that Roger had been through, he still maintained his sense of humor and a strong determination to live long enough to see a cure for this horrible disease. Unfortunately, despite his best efforts, he lost his battle with this disease on February 15, 2023. As his daughter, I will advocate for this foundation in the hopes that one day my father's wish will come true and no one will have to endure this devastating disease. Roger D. Butler Roger D. Butler of Chicago, IL passed away on September 8, 2024, two years after being diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. He was a fun, caring, generous and jovial man who will be missed dearly by his family and the many friends he made over his lifetime.
