Jim Danko My dad, Jim Danko, was a wonderful father and friend to everyone. He loved watching sports, playing golf, and spending time with his family the most. Almost 4 years ago, we found out he was sick with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. We did not know much about the disease at the time, but we quickly learned of its devastating impact to his health and well being. We all miss my dad everyday, but with his loss comes the opportunity to educate my friends and family about this horrible disease that cut my dads life short and is being diagnosed at a growing rate. Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis is a respiratory disease that hardens the elasticity of the lungs, effectively killing off the tissue slowly by creating scar tissue. "Idiopathic" means unknown cause. This means doctors and others in the medical community do not know how patients contract the disease because it is still relatively new and because of this, most cases go miss diagnosed as pneumonia because of the initial symptoms. This was true for my dads case. At the present time, there is not a known cure for the disease besides medication to slow the progression and then eventually transplantation of the lungs. We tried getting him on the transplant list 2 separate times, but other health complications prevented him from getting a spot on the list he so badly needed. This is the case for many patients that we have learned. And even if the patient gets on the list, the journey to recovery has just begun. During the last year and a half of his life, I had the an active role in caring for my father along side my mom. Throughout the process, his spirits were good for the most part and he was always ready for a good laugh. He touched so many lives around him during his life and he also touched more after we learned someone was able to benefit from the gift of sight because of his generous donation of his corneas. Please donate in the name of Jim Danko, so that a cure and/or treatments to prolong life for sufferers of this terrible disease can be found. Maxine Crawley Please donate in the name of Maxine Crawley, so that a cure and/or treatments to prolong life for sufferers of this terrible disease can be found. My grandmother was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis in October of 2014 and lost her battle with this horrible disease on May 25th, 2019. We never understood why someone so kind-hearted and selfless was dealt such a rough hand, but you would've never known what she was up against. My grandmother was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt to a big, loving family. She enjoyed playing bunco, attending church, and watching her grandkids play everything from baseball to basketball. She was also a die hard University of Kentucky fan. I still don't understand why she was called home so soon, but we continue to keep her memory alive and I know she would want nothing more than to help those who are battling this same disease. God bless! Milton Whitney A son, brother, husband, father and grandfather whose greatest love in life was his family and his farm. He enjoyed talking with people, telling stories, country fair food, and ice cream. He loved cutting wood in the winter and baling hay in the summer. He farmed alongside his own father behind a pair of horses. He put new life into old equipment and could fix anything. He passed on this passion to his own children and grandchildren. His perfect day would be morning coffee, talking and reading the newspaper (the stories of interest outloud), the outdoor chores of the season and a family dinner with all his kids and grandkids. In his older years he enjoyed keeping his bird feeders full, maintaining his farm, small engine repair for local townspeople, and visiting with family and friends. His spirit will be missed. Paul FrechIn Paul's memory, we are raising awareness and funds for the mission of the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. For over forty years his life was spent lovingly diagnosing both his customers' cars and his customers' problems. This was always done with a smile and a laugh (and so much knowledge shared). He was then determined to diagnose the cause of his IPF to help both himself and those with the disease. Leave it to the mechanic, the mentor, the friend, the husband, the Father, and the man with endless patience to always keep searching for an answer and know that there must be and has to be a solution. Don't let Paul's quest go unanswered. All proceeds go towards: • Finding effective treatments and a cure for pulmonary fibrosis• Advocating for the pulmonary fibrosis community • Promoting disease awareness • Providing a compassionate environment for patients and their families Please donate, and together we can help those living with pulmonary fibrosis and the families of those we have lost.
