Margaret J. Worm (1937 - 2018) Margaret’s family is raising awareness and funds for the mission of the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation in her honor. Ben Rogers Ben was born on October 23, 1953 and married his soulmate Mary in 1974. He was a family man and raised four children together with his wife in the country nestled among hundreds of pine trees. He was surrounded by eight busy grandchildren ranging in ages from 24 to 7 years old with grandbaby #9 on the way. Ben was a produce manager for 40 years. Many people will remember his smiling face in the Produce Department at Eagle Foods Supermarket where he was the manager for 33 years, three months and three days. After Eagles closed, he finished out his career at Jewel-Osco.Ben touched many lives and was a loyal friend. He had strong family values, which he imparted to his children and grandchildren. During his lifetime he shared his love of music, movies, do-it-yourself projects, and, of course, the Iowa Hawkeyes. In 2015, Dad shared with his family that he was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. A disabling disease without a known cure and few treatment options. After much consideration, declining health and prayer, he decided in October 2017 to be listed for new lungs. He was selected fairly quickly and on November, 11, 2017 he underwent a successful single lung transplant on his right side. Dad gained an extra 2 years and 3 months of life with the incredible gift of his new lung. It was not until late January of 2020, that Dad became ill and was diagnosed with Pneumonia, RSV and ultimately Pulmonary Aspergillosis. He was hospitalized on two separate occassions and ultimately, lost his battle on Tuesday, February 11, 2020. Our Dad wanted to leave an impact and always looked for ways to help others. He felt strongly about education and was eager to always figure things out. Our hope is that with generous contributions to PFF, his legacy can help the lives of others that are affected by this disease and ultimately help to find a cure. Nrupendrarai Shah Dr. Nrupendrarai Shah was born in Ahmedabad, Gujarat in 1936. He earned his medical degree and then married his beautiful and devoted wife Surekha. They built a strong and loving family.In 1975 they immigrated to Chicago, Illinois where dad worked and received his fellowship in Anesthesia. He worked faithfully for the next 40 years. Along the way he made many friends and touched many lives. He happily sponsored his brothers and brother-in-law. They all went on to live happy and successful lives. Dad worked hard and was very successful in all facets of his life. He did well academically and also in his working life. He was a simple and spiritual man. He derived his spirituality from his simplicity and living an unassuming life— he had no ego, no ill will for anyone, and was always willing to help. Dad’s greatest joy came from being with his wife and working as an anesthesiologist. He was a devoted son, brother, and father. We are heartbroken by his loss. Diane Ludlum Diane Virginia Ludlum (nee Moormann) of Somerset, KY., passed away peacefully after a brief illness on April 11, 2021. Diane grew up in Hyde Park and graduated from Withrow High School in 1970, where she met, and soon after married the love of her life, Huston ‘Buzz’ Ludlum. Married 49 years, together they raised two daughters, Holly and Brandyn. Diane left three grandsons: Andrew, Collin and Braden (Masternak). Diane loved swimming, boating and travel. She traveled alot with her husband throughout the mid-west, California, Texas, Florida and Virginia. She was very fond of her travels to England and Scotland with Scotland being her favorite. Dan fought this horrible disease courageously for 8 years. He did amazingly well for 6 years which Dan's doctors attributed to his music training which helped condition his lungs. Mike Fournier November 20, 1960 - July 18, 2023 Michael "Mike" Thomas Fournier was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and son. Mike, along with his wife, owned and operated SMA Technologies, a precision spindle repair business in Brighton, Michigan for over 24 years. Mike was an inventor and a pioneer in the machine repair industry, respected by professional colleagues and clients around the world. In June 2023, Mike was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a subset of interstitial lung disease (ILD). Four weeks after of being diagnosed with ILD, Mike had a sudden, acute attack that took his life within a week. Knowing Mike's generous and fighting spirit, his wish would be to promote awareness to this disease, in the hopes of progressing research and treatments for ILD in order to help others. In loving memory of Jose Oscar Lopez Lacayo, MD My dad was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) in 2019. His disease went from occasional bouts of dry cough to intermittent dyspnea. In 2022, he started requiring a portable oxygen concentrator for traveling, and shortly after, he became oxygen dependent. He fought hard against this disease as much as current medications allowed. He lost the battle against IPF on July 23rd, 2023, at eighty years of age. As family members, we recognize how devastating this disease can be for patients and relatives, especially when a lung transplant is not an option.
