If you ever met my brother then you know what joy he brings to the world around him. And attending any special olympics event is truly awe inspiring but especially when you're there cheering on your brother. As the years go on participating and attending the summer games with my brother it's becoming apparent that the volunteers and funds are growing lower each year. For such a special event to so many people it's really upsetting to see. New Year's Day I was thinking about doing a polar plunge and I was thinking of a good organization to raise money for, and well this organization hits close to the heart for me. The cold water will definitely make you feel alive but not as much as watching these special athletes compete. I'll be sharing this fundraiser periodically before the plunge and of course post a video of me freezing my tushie off new years day while my brother takes a seat to cheer me on this time! Thanks in advance to anyone who is able to help out ♥

I have a compassion and an empathy for those with disabilities and their families. I believe in the power of sport to transcend difficulty and limitation by providing joy and unity. I have setup this fundraiser for the Special Olympics. My goal is to raise $300 by August 31, 2020. I am pairing this effort with a personal pursuit to run 150 miles by August 31, 2020 or approximately 20 miles a week at $2 a mile. This effort is also a personal motive to run for something that is greater than myself. Any contribution you can make would be greatly appreciated - even if it’s just $2. Please select this link to contribute directly to the Special Olympics. In the event that I do not reach my fund raising goal, I will contribute my full goal amount by August 31, 2020. Thank you for your consideration.

The Special Olympics makes such an impact on friends like Kimmie's brother, Doug who has Down syndrome. He has been an avid competitor since he's been able, excelling in gymnastics and swimming... quite literally the most athletic person on our family. We celebrate differences and inclusion in our family, and love that the Special Olympics helps folks like Doug achieve whatever they want through sports.

As the creator/administrator of a growing community of boots, denim, and watch collectors/enthusiasts, I figured we had an opportunity to do great things in the form of charity. Along with the moderators, we at RUGGED Outdoor Apparel have decided to help support an especially needed cause like Special Olympics. My daughter, Emery, has Down Syndrome and has been a special olympian for 5 years including placing 2nd in the state of Ohio in swimming at her age level. She has built strong relationships, lasting friendships, a sense of belonging, a sense of achievement, and many other lasting positives in her life. So, please help support the Special Olympics through a straight monetary donation here, or consider purchasing The Emery Boot from Frank’sXRUGGED at www.franksboots.com. Thank you.

The Special Olympics have been making Olympic dreams come true for otherwise-abled athletes since 1968. The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Local Special Olympics are held in every major city, but sometimes the athlete needs to do some fundraising in order to get there, to get the proper equipment or uniform/costume in order to make their dreams of gold come true. Fundraising can be challenging, but these athletes are used to challenges.

Hi! My name is Katie Orlin and I'm currently a student at Duke University. Throughout my childhood and time before Duke, I spent a lot of time playing sports and investing in my passion for athletics. I was a synchronized ice skater for ten years and competed regionally, nationally, and internationally. I am fortunate enough that I was able to pursue my dreams, and now I want to make sure that every kid also has this opportunity. Now, as an undergraduate student I stay involved with synchronized skating as an assistant coach for a group of young girls in the North Carolina. Additionally, I have taken an interest in running and have now set a goal for myself to run a half marathon. Not only was being an athlete a physical test on my body, but the sport allowed me to develop perseverance, dedication, and hard work that have all contributed to my current success as a student. As I set my sights on achieving another athletic goal of mine, and running a half marathon I would like to contribute to the athletic community of those who are not always given the chance to participate in athletic competition. I will be running my FIRST half marathon on April 4 in Winston Salem, NC, and I kindly request for you to donate to this cause as I run this race. I am running to help every athlete live their dream and participate in the incredible culture of sport.

As many of you know, our daughter’s horse slipped and fell on her rounding a barrel during practice last week. It crushed her left foot and put an immediate stop to many of the competitive activities she spends most of her time practicing daily (cross country, basketball, rodeo). She has surgery this week and a 3-4 month (hopefully) recovery ahead of her. Since her injury, I have been so proud of her positive attitude and outlook. It’s going to be a difficult few months, but we want to help her make something great come from the situation. As parents, it’s easy to focus on all that your kid is missing when life throws him/her a curveball like this and even start a pity party. Well, we want to completely flip the script during her recovery and help an organization that gives hope to kids and adults with intellectual disabilities through training and competition. Special Olympics gives these athletes continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. I am pledging to run/walk/bike 100 miles during her recovery and am asking for your help with making these miles matter. If we can get $10 donated for every mile, we will reach our goal of raising $1000 for Special Olympics of Arkansas. Please join us in donating for #milesthatmatter!

Hello Friends & Family! I wanted to get involved with giving back to the community, so together with a couple of my work friends, we've joined forces to participate in the Wheaton Hot Cider Hustle 5k Fun Walk on Saturday, October 29. We are raising money for the Special Olympics, a not-for-profit organization offering year-round training and competition for athletes and young athletes with disabilities. This is especially dear to me because I believe in supporting community programs for people with disabilities, whether physical, or intellectual, or mental, seen and unseen, disclosed or undisclosed. You probably know someone that is living with a disability and they are in need of some type of support. Special Olympics programs enhance physical fitness, motor skills, self-confidence, social skills and encourage family and community support. If my team meets or exceeds our fundraising goals, we can apply for a fundraising grant through our company foundation, CVS Health Foundation, to match our contributions. I hope you'll donate to our cause! No donation is too small! Thank you for all your support! Event info: https://allcommunityevents.com/hotciderhustle

Volunteering with Special Olympics has truly changed my life. This Organization gives opportunities to individuals with disabilities, that they may not have access to otherwise. Special Olympics fosters an accepting and inclusive environment, and with your donation, more individuals with disabilities can have the opportunity to be a part of it. If you are unable to donate, consider visiting the Special Olympics website and taking the pledge for inclusion. We can make this world a more inclusive place one small step at a time!

Mark Hoem This summer, I participated as a Special Olympics coach for the first time, and it was one of the best decisions I've made in a long time. I'm personally committed to running a marathon from now till end of November with the intent to raise money for Northern California Special Olympics with hopes to touch more amazing people in this community through for in-demand supplies and resources to keep the program humming! I expected this to be a feel-good experience for giving back to the community, but it's near impossible to conceptualize the amount of joy this brought to myself, the families, and the coaching community all involved in such a wonderful community. Each Wednesday I found myself looking forward to each session more and more to spend time with the athletes and their families teaching them about athletes, playing as a team, being involved and prideful of our community, and bringing laughs and smiles to one-another. It's contagious, and it's safe to say it's something I'll be volunteering to do for years on end. To me, the Special Olympics is the inflection point of personal growth and human kindness in its purest form. The athletes have taught me invaluable life lessons on strong character (and I'd like to think I taught them a thing or two as well). I was around athletes who in their own right have the potential to become scratch golfers competing on the toughest courses out there. One athlete in particular has had over 13+ brain surgeries in their life, and despite their unique circumstances, they are positive, they are involved, and they are motivated to keep moving forward. They come every week with a no-excuse mindset, smiles on their faces, and ambitious attitudes to be their best selves. Simply put, they are remarkable.

UWSP Pointers for Special Olympics Hello! Thank you for visiting our page! For over 9.5 years, NCAA Division III has nurtured a partnership with Special Olympics that we hold dear to our hearts. UWSP's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has created a team for the 2021 Polar Plunge: Chillin' at Home. While we can't jump into icy waters this year at the actual Polar Plunge, we're making our own fun at home and still showing the athletes of Special Olympics Wisconsin that they have our support! After our fundraising is complete, we will be compiling a video of representatives from our athletic teams participating in creative ways to take the plunge (taking an ice bath, dropping a bucket of ice water on ourselves while performing our favorite TikTok dance, making swimsuit snow angels, having a winter water balloon fight, etc.) that will be shared with our family, friends, and supporters. Special Olympics athletes not only break down barriers to build communities of inclusion, but they spread light wherever they go, and they inspire us to be the best versions of ourselves. We are very grateful and blessed to have a partnership with Special Olympics, and we strive to advocate their amazing mission. Please consider joining or making a donation to our team for this great event! The cost to support one athlete for one year is $757--help us reach our goal! We greatly appreciate you and your generosity! Thank you, UWSP SAAC
