Thru-Hike Challenge for the Special Olympics My challenge is to complete the thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. The Special Olympics offer those with intellectual disabilities to compete in sports in this world-wide event. The Special Olympics is much more than a competition. These Olympians show us that each of us has the gift to inspire others. So, I ask that you donate to this worthy organization as I meet my challenge. Thank you!

I have to phrase this carefully, as not all the rights to do this fund raiser have been gained. Recently a performer and singer died. His music has been climbing the charts since then. He once did a performance for Special Olympics to raise money for the organization. I have a story idea on what may have happened to him after his death. He ended up in Oz, which is referred to in one of his songs. His also deceased writing partner is there. During the course of their time there, they manage to help banish the evil witches from the North and South, with the help of the good witches and the Wizard, of course. The book containing this story would have money from its sale donated to Special Olympics. In addition to the story, there would be illustrations and a music disc containing at least the song he sung for Special Olympics and his hit song, referring to the building of the Emerald City. I can provide you with samples of my writing if you wish. I have not yet contacted the heirs of these musicians yet. I decided to contact you and see if you were interested first. If you are, I will contact the heirs. Please let me know as soon as possible. Thank you. Birthday

For my birthday this year, I'm asking for a donation to the Special Olympics in lieu of a gift!!! This organization means the world to me. My son, Anders, has nonverbal autism. He is the center of my universe literally; he has played in the Special Olympics games before and it has meant the absolute world to him and to us as his parents for him to be able to participate in something like this. Something quote unquote normal! As you know the normal fun activities for children with special needs like my son can be very limited. The Special Olympics organization makes it possible for these children to experience the joy that they are often deprived of because of their special needs. As a parent this is heartbreaking to watch your child being left out! We all want the best for our children, and we special needs parents are no different! If you would consider donating, it would mean the absolute world to me; a small donation will help this wonderful organization continue to make it possible for children like Anders to be included in these fun activities and games and to experience the childhood joys that all children should be able to experience no matter their special needs! Thank you so much!!!

We created Special Sports - a non-profit dedicated towards bringing sports equipment and the funding for it - to bring athletic opportunity to areas that do not have prominent access, especially for athletes will disabilities. Sports provide common goals and common ground for all, breaking the divide between culture, race, language, and much more, proving to be extremely valuable in the modern world. However, disabled athletes are exceptionally marginalized in the world of sports. With few to no athletic opportunities in certain regions, Special Sports has the goal of providing sports equipment for allowance of new organizations in more remote areas to start athletic events for athletes with special needs.

As the creator/administrator of a growing community of boots, denim, and watch collectors/enthusiasts, I figured we had an opportunity to do great things in the form of charity. Along with the moderators, we at RUGGED Outdoor Apparel have decided to help support an especially needed cause like Special Olympics. My daughter, Emery, has Down Syndrome and has been a special olympian for 5 years including placing 2nd in the state of Ohio in swimming at her age level. She has built strong relationships, lasting friendships, a sense of belonging, a sense of achievement, and many other lasting positives in her life. So, please help support the Special Olympics through a straight monetary donation here, or consider purchasing The Emery Boot from Frank’sXRUGGED at www.franksboots.com. Thank you.

Good morning. I am making this post as I walk out the door to take a great big bite out of my slice of life. Today I will start a 100-mile ultramarathon (GULP!) at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, AL. I hope to punctuate 2022 and 2023 with exclamation points by running out of one year and into another. Such a feat has been a goal of mine for years, and after months of training, today I will try to make it a reality. Whether I cover the distance is less important than making the effort to do so. I simply must try, and I am grateful for the support and encouragement that Lori and my family have provided. Ultrarunning can be a selfish sport. It takes a lot of time away from family and commands discipline. To make this challenge less selfish, every mile that I cover will increase my contribution to the Special Olympics in the memory and honor of Samuel Hurt. Last year, my friend and co-worker named Brian Hurt and his family unexpectedly lost their teenage son, Samuel Hurt. Samuel was an avid supporter of the Special Olympics and the ideals it embodies. My goal is to raise funds supporting the Special Olympics in Samuel’s honor as a tribute to him and his volunteerism for the Special Olympics. If you are so fortunate as to be able to support any charitable cause, I encourage you to make a contribution towards this fundraising effort (https://fundraise.givesmart.com/vf/SPECIAL/TroyMouton) OR the charity of your choice for each mile that I cover. Our combined efforts will create meaning from miles and breathe life into causes that need our collective support. I expect to see Lori periodically as this event unfolds, and she will share with me any observations about the causes that may benefit from this effort based on your comments and commitments. When the dust settles and I am able to share results, I will offer a race report that includes the miles completed should that distance impact any contribution you wish to make. Thank you for your consideration, support, and motivation to keep moving forward. Troy

I am excited to announce that I will be fundraising for Special Olympics this year! Special Olympics is an amazing organization that is dedicated to providing year-round sports training and athletic competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities. The organization's mission is to empower individuals with intellectual disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports training and competition. Through Special Olympics, athletes have the opportunity to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. Special Olympics not only helps to improve physical fitness and motor skills, but also builds self-confidence, promotes inclusion and acceptance within communities, and provides athletes with access to health screenings, education and leadership opportunities, and other resources to help them succeed in all aspects of life. As a supporter of Special Olympics, I believe in the organization's mission and the positive impact it has on the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities. That's why I am fundraising for Special Olympics this year. I want to do my part to support the organization and the athletes it serves. With your help, we can make a real difference in the lives of these individuals and their communities. I hope you will consider supporting me in my fundraising efforts for Special Olympics. Every little bit helps and is greatly appreciated. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities.

We are fundraising for the Special Olympics and to support the Superstars Special Olympics Gymnastics team at Exxcel Gymnastics in Newton, MA that we founded in 2022. My older daughter Zoe, a competitive gymnast, and I were inspired to create this team to provide children with disabilities the opportunity to experience the joy and benefits of gymnastics. Our family has been actively involved with the Special Olympics for many years. My younger daughter, Zara, who happens to have been born with Prader-Willi Syndrome, has been a Special Olympics athlete since age 8, both in swimming and track & field. She really enjoyed gymnastics classes as a young child, but when she got older, there were no opportunities for her to continue to participate in this sport, which is so helpful to develop strength, coordination, flexibility and balance. The owners at Exxcel Gymnastics graciously allowed us to start this program there. We are grateful to them, as well as to the Exxcel gymnasts and others volunteers who help coach our wonderful athletes. The highlight of our season is competing at the Special Olympics Summer Games of Massachusetts. Our goals in creating this team are to: Foster the physical, mental and social wellbeing of individuals with intellectual disabilities through sport Provide them an opportunity to develop physical fitness, have fun, develop meaningful social connections, build confidence and demonstrate courage through gymnastics training and competition Promote inclusivity by providing volunteers the opportunity to connect with individuals with disabilities The Special Olympics organization has a long and storied history, the beginnings of which started in Eunice Kennedy Shriver’s backyard in the early 1960s as a summer camp for children with intellectual disabilities. It has since grown to become an international movement that brings together people with and without intellectual disabilities through the transformative power of sports and play. It includes Unified sports programs in which individuals with and without intellectual disabilities compete in various sports on the same team. The Special Olympics supports over 4 million athletes, volunteers and coaches throughout the world, culminating in the World Winter and Summer Games. Its reach goes beyond sports, however. Some of their other programs include: Health and wellness programs, such as medical and vision screenings Leadership programs for both those with and without disabilities Advocacy work to promote an inclusive world Refugee programs The Special Olympics organization strives to drive social change to combat discrimination against those with intellectual disabilities and to enable their full participation in society. Thank you for visiting our fundraising page and thank you so much for your donation!

Hello everybody! My name is Marc, I was born and raised in Cologne, Germany and am very thrilled to announce that this summer, I will embark on the most ambitious athletic endeavor of my life. I will ride down by bicycle the whole 3900 km/2400 miles of Route 66, from the shores of Lake Michigan in Chicago to the Pacific Coast in Los Angeles. My journey will take me through the green forests and pastures of the Midwest, the unsparing deserts of the Southwest and all the vibrant, culturally enriched cities along the way. I am dedicating my athletic efforts to Special Olympics, a highly respected non-profit organization that empowers people with Intellectual Disabilities through the transformative power and joy of sport. It is active all around the globe, offering opportunities to more than three million athletes on six continents. The donations are used by Special Olympics to finance sport activities for those that are not able to be included or are even actively excluded from regular sport programs. While athletic activities for non-disabled people have a strong stance in society and are available at almost every corner, special needs based sport programs are heavily underrepresented and underfunded. For people with Intellectual Disabilities, sport is a privilege that only few are lucky enough to enjoy, even if it has major therapeutic value. Special Olympics’ programs are the only possibility for many of its athletes to participate in athletic activity and experience the joys and benefits of sports. Specifically, your donation would be used for even more than inclusive sport programs. Special Olympics also provides large-scale health screenings in areas in which people with disabilities have restricted access to healthcare and educates coaches on special needs training in an effort to encourage inclusion beyond its own projects. I therefore sincerely invite you to support Special Olympics’ mission by donating whatever amount you deem appropriate. No matter how seemingly small your contribution might be, it is through a collective effort that we will be able to support equity, inclusion, and equal access to challenge and opportunity. No matter if you choose to make a donation, spread the word about my cause or are simply cheering me on along on my journey, I am very much thankful for any kind of support. Let’s embark on this journey together and let’s make it one worth remembering! If you are interested in following me along on my journey, you can do so on TikTok and Instagram: https://www.tiktok.com/@marcsdigitaldiary?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc https://www.instagram.com/marcsdigitaldiary/
