Because I’ve supported this team, and for several reasons, am moved to put my body where my money is. Swimming has been my moving meditation in 2020-21. I started as physical therapy, and it’s become mental therapy as well. Swimming is how I’ve healed from injury, been sad and let go of anger, and find peace in challenging and strengthening myself. I’ve listened and learned throughout. I realized, when taking lessons and practicing to correct my poor form, that I literally could not think about anything but breathing. That, alone, unexpectedly provided much mental relief from pandemic stressors. Now that I have a more efficient stroke(s!), I think about others. What about the friends and folks going through worse than me? If I think swimming is hard, and it’s a choice, can I swim harder on behalf of those who can’t this year? Yes, and I can dedicate that effort to them through participating in this fantastic annual fundraiser that benefits the work of the Women's Cancer Resource Center. Dear Family and Friends: In October I'm participating in the 26th annual Swim A Mile / Move A Mile for Women with Cancer. I sincerely hope you will contribute to support my fundraising efforts! This annual fundraiser benefits the psycho-social programs of the Women's Cancer Resource Center, an East Bay, health-equity organization that has supported under-served women with cancer and their families for more than 35 years. I have been on the Board of Directors for seven years and am honored to have served as Board Chair since 2018. For me, one of the highlights of each year is to serve as captain of the Board of Directors’ and Friends’ Swim A Mile Team. Much to our dismay, we are still dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, but that is not stopping Swim A Mile / Move A Mile for 2021. Our clients and our community continue to feel the impact of this virus and disruption of life. So, we value your support and donations more than ever before. Many WCRC clients are facing the combined trauma of cancer treatment, and the economic, health, and psychological impacts of the pandemic. Once again, I am swimming and walking (Yes, we again have several ways to participate) to ensure that WCRC continues to be a lifeline for many women with cancer. These thousands of people from all backgrounds participate in WCRC’s programs to help bolster their quality of life through cancer treatment and this pandemic.
