Thanks for checking out our team page! We're joining forces to raise funds for the Women's Cancer Resource Center. Your donation will help provide free services to women with cancer in the Bay Area. Please read about Matilda's journey below. When Matilda was around 1 year old, she had a check up on her liver (that had caused some concerns when she was in utero). The liver looked fine but they found some big abnormalities with her kidneys. One of her kidneys was 20 times the size of a normal kidney. This finding led to a CT scan, a test to make sure her kidneys were functional, then to many blood samples and finally to a diagnosis. Matilda had an extremely rare but treatable condition called “nephroblastomatosis” in her kidneys and needed chemotherapy to treat it. She had surgery to insert a port in her chest and started chemotherapy in May 2019 with weekly infusions for 6 weeks. After this she received chemo every 3 weeks until January 2021 with quarterly MRIs to monitor how the treatment was working. So many pokes, so many tears and so many times watching *Frozen* at the clinic. The medicine worked and her kidneys shrunk. It also cleared out the nephroblastomatosis and right after treatment ended she got her port taken out in February 2021. We took an amazing Summer trip to Finland to visit family that had been delayed for years due to her diagnosis. We lived carefree and and “normal” for the first time in a long time. Her hair grew in thick and blond and was long enough for mini pig-tails. This past week, the quarterly MRI was due to check on her kidneys. The results showed a growing nodule in her left kidney that will require surgery to be removed and most likely followed by chemotherapy. We can’t believe that this is happening, again. Matilda is the ultimate Warrior. We gave her this name because of its etymology (meaning “strength in battle”). She is spunky, sensitive, silly, independent, inquisitive, caring and “gives the best hugs” according to her aunt. She is so brave and strong and continues to amaze us throughout this journey. She indeed hates to be held down and poked but otherwise feels really comfortable at the hospital and charms the staff left and right. We swim this mile for Matilda. For her beautiful spirit and strength in this battle. Please have her in your thoughts.

This annual fundraiser benefits the work of the Women's Cancer Resource Center. Since 1986, WCRC has provided programs and a network of supportive services for women with cancer in the Bay Area. This is my first year participating in this event and I'm very excited to swim for this great cause. It is very important to me because several friends and family members have been directly impacted by cancer including my Grandma, Aunt Rita, Aunt Dorothy, Tita Cynthia, Jerie, Jan, Jacqueline, Rosario, Natalie, Vanessa and Laura. I want to dedicate this swim to my loved ones. Thank you for your generous support of our Swim A Mile! In early October I will be participating in the Swim A Mile / Move A Mile for Women with Cancer, and I hope you'll make a contribution in support of my Swim... or join me in fundraising on Team Point B Paddlers, Movers & Shakers! The Swim A Mile is a fantastic annual fundraiser that benefits the work of the Women's Cancer Resource Center. Since 1986, WCRC has provided programs and a network of supportive services for women with cancer in the Bay Area. This year's event is different because of the pandemic, including swim or move a mile, and in-person (if possible) or virtual options. WCRC has also applied that flexible approach by shifting all services to virtual to support our clients, who need support now more than ever. In fact, we learned that shifting support groups to a virtual setting means some clients can attend who couldn't in the past due to mobility, transportation or other issues. We'll keep that option even after the pandemic subsides, as we continue to look for better ways to serve clients. All of WCRC's services are provided 100% free of charge -- and are 100% funded by charitable giving. In early October I will be participating in the Swim A Mile / Move A Mile for Women with Cancer, and I hope you'll make a contribution in support! I dedicate this event to my beloved grandmother, Joanie, who passed away of breast cancer before I had the pleasure of being held in her arms, as well as to Dr. Lila Baker, a trusted friend and important member of our community who fought her best until the very end. If there is one important lesson I gathered from Dr. Lila, it is that no matter how the daunting or challenging the circumstances you may face are, it is important to stay positive, put on a brave face, and persevere, the same way she did in the face of more heartache, pain, and struggle than we will ever realize. This event is an important part of who I am, having participated since I was eight years old alongside my family, to now, nearing 24, pursuing the tradition and raising money for a beautiful cause along the way. Any donation, big or small, will make every lap I complete that much more meaningful. I want to express my gratitude for your support, be it a good luck, a text, or a dollar, and I look forward to thanking each and every one of you following my race and my journey for this cause that is so truly important to me. With love, Henri

Dear Family, Friends and Neighbors, Yes, it’s that time of the year again for me to raise funds for women with cancer in the Bay Area by participating in the annual Swim-A-Mile/Move A Mile on behalf of WCRC (Women's Cancer Resource Center). Although progress is being made, the war against cancer has yet to be won. I have been training all summer so I can swim a mile at the beautiful Mills College pool on Oct. 2 at 12:00. Not every senior can do this but I am confident that I will make it through once again. I will be participating in this event to honor my mother, sister-in-law, brother-in-law and many friends, all of whom passed from cancer, as well as for all of the women of WCRC who are currently fighting their own personal battles with cancer.WCRC's services are provided 100% free of charge – and they are 100% funded by charitable giving. Thousands of women from all backgrounds participate in WCRC’s programs to help bolster their quality of life through cancer treatment and this pandemic. We who are currently free from COVID-19 and cancer should be grateful for dodging two bullets, but others are not so lucky.IT IS REALLY EASY TO DONATE so please, give just $10, or of course more, to help these under-served women who are still fighting their battles against cancer. They can only do it with support from warm-hearted and caring people like you. You can donate here: text SWIM152 to 71777, or mail a check with my name in the memo to:Women's Cancer Resource Center2908 Ellsworth St.Berkeley, CA 94705I miss seeing you all due to covid, but we'll make it through this together and I can't wait for WCRC to receive the charitable kindness of your support. Stay well!Fondly and with much gratitude,Iris (Hudis)

Dear Friends and Family, We are swimming a mile again to raise money to support women with cancer. I'm excited because it's fun: the whole event has a really good vibe and it feels good to help people in the way that we can, especially since we have a lot of people in our lives who have had cancer. Please donate if you can. Love, Isla In early October I will be participating in the Swim A Mile / Move A Mile for Women with Cancer, and I hope you'll make a contribution in support!
