I'm taking part in The Goat Games 2021 to help raise money for Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge! This sanctuary means a lot to me, and I volunteer there a few times a month to help feed and care for the many chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, sheep and goats they care for! They're looking to expand and soon give cows a happy home, and I can't wait to be a part of that growth! IF YOUR GOALS DON'T SCARE YOU, THEY'RE NOT BIG ENOUGH! This being said, I'm going to get a little aggressive with my fundraising and exercise goal for this challenge. At first I was going to raise $500 and move 100 miles within the week, but then I decided I could challenge myself further. So, since I'm currently training for my first half-ironman in October (70.3 miles total: 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run), and my long term goal is to run a full ironman someday (double those distances), I decided I'm going to do swim/bike/run a total of 140 miles this week, the distance of a full Ironman! When I'm not working as a licensed veterinary technician in a busy veterinary hospital, running Wildwood Farm Sanctuary is my other full time job! Working in the field of large animal veterinary medicine for 26 years, I was able to see that there was a great need in our area of Western Oregon for a safe, peaceful, refuge for abused and neglected farm animals to land when needed, and a nature preserve to protect our fast disappearing native plants and wildlife in this area. I founded Wildwood Farm Sanctuary & Preserve in 2012 on my family farm where 4 generations of farmers have lived, and myself spent countless summers as a child. Between the days of August 14th and August 20th for my 52nd birthday, I've committed to hike the woodland trail system at Wildwood every day for 1 hour for the Goat Games to raise funds for a much needed medical transportation van for the animals here at Wildwood. Hi friends! I wanted to let you know that I am part of Team Heartwood (of course!) in this year's Goat Games - an event to help raise funds and awareness for farmed animals. I will be walking 10 miles between two of Seattle's longest established vegan restaurants! Saturday, August 14, 2021, I will be starting at Wayward Vegan Cafe at 10:30 am and ending at Georgetown Liquor Company. The walk should take around 3 - 4 hours. I really appreciate your support! Between August 14 to August 21, I'll be mooooo-ving to raise money for rescued farmed animals, and you can support my training by helping me reach my goal now. As the Vice-President at Wildwood Farm Sanctuary, I want to invite you to support this little corner of the Earth where nature and animals are lovingly protected and all life is cherished. The native plants and insects and animals live peacefully alongside the formerly farmed goats and chickens, turkeys, ducks, alpacas, sheep, and beautiful bovines. We hope to raise $15,000 during the Games -- an ambitious goal for a young and small sanctuary. But we have a serious reason for this ambition: we need to buy a cargo van that can safely transport sanctuary animals to their veterinary appointments. The vehicle could also be a life-saver, given the impact of climate change on the local landscape and the wildfires that are nearly ever present. If the flames come perilously close to this precious piece of Earth, we will need to quickly move 100 animals to safety. I pledge to walk my sweet, ambling old dogs 1/2 mile a day during the Goat Games. These days, with hot daytime temperatures, that's usually a sunset activity, and it's the highlight of their day. Join or support team Heartwood Haven in the 2021 Goat Games! While we may not have any goats currently living at Heartwood, our pigs would argue that they are the G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time). The jury is still out but we're encouraging them to reach for the stars in these Olym-pigs! Heartwood Haven is located in a park-like setting in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. We are on a mission to end animal cruelty against farm animals in the PNW. We primarily work with local animal control to rescue animals coming from cruelty and abuse cases. These animals are typically former cock-fighting roosters and pigs. Through our successful adoption program we are able to save hundreds of animals every year. In addition to our rescue work we also fight for a more compassionate world through our education and advocacy programs. Team Catskill! We’re baaaaaaaack!!! The 2021 Goat Games are here and we are again fundraising for Catskill Animal Sanctuary! Last year, we raised over $500 by bicycling over 20 miles (I think, but who remembers??).
