Dear Family and Friends, Cancer. Yup, that's up there on the list of words you don't ever want to hear. Cancer is never easy, but the battle that cancer patients wage is made even harder if she is un/under insured or doesn't have a strong support network. The Women's Cancer Resource Center exists to provide critical support services to women facing cancer. On April 30th, I will be participating in the Swim A Mile / Move A Mile for Women with Cancer, and I hope you'll make a contribution in support of my participation. The Swim A Mile /Move A Mile for Women with Cancer is a fun and inspiring annual fundraiser that benefits the work of the Women's Cancer Resource Center. Since 1986, WCRC has provided programs and a network of supportive services for women with cancer in the Bay Area. Its mission is to improve equitable access to cancer information, support and care. All of its services are FREE and funded entirely by charitable giving. You can make a donation on this page, or send a check with my name in the memo to: Women's Cancer Resource Center2908 Ellsworth StBerkeley, CA 94705 Thanks in advance for your generous donation. It will directly support more than 2,000 people over the next year! You're the best, Elisabeth

Dear One, This year I’ll join the crowd on Saturday, April 30, and for the 13th year, and swim my mile to raise money for the Women's Cancer Resource Center(WCRC). I’ll be swimming in honor of my Healing Circles sisters and loving friends, Terry, Faati, Junice, Marie, Claudia, Laine, and Maggie. We gather every Tuesday night from around the world, by Zoom, to offer support and deep listening to each other, and to honor and witness our cancer journeys. It has been a lifesaving for me during this time of Co-VID. I debated whether to swim in April, after having just participated – and appealed to you for your support last October – only 7 months ago. But, I’m committed to swimming every year until I can’t; I did not want to miss a year. So, I hope you’ll help me make the change to an April 2022 Swim, take the plunge, and support my efforts to contribute to the valuable work of WCRC. Dear Friends, This spring, I will be participating in the Swim A Mile / Move A Mile for Women with Cancer, and I hope you'll make a contribution in support of my participation! If you are wondering why the 2022 Swim/Move A Mile is in April, rather than the "usual" October, it is because WCRC hopes that a spring date will bring better weather than October and less risks of smoke from California wildfires that seem to be happening frequently in the fall. This is the WCRC's major fundraising event for the entire year. Dear Friends and Family, It is once again time for the Women’s Cancer Resource Center’s (WCRC) annual fundraiser. Wait! What? So soon!? WCRC has decided to move its annual fundraiser to Spring, as Fall in California has been plagued with fires and poor air quality. So, yes, it’s time for Swim A Mile!! Swim A Mile raises funds that allow WCRC to continue to offer FREE services and support to women as they navigate their personal care related to cancer. I will be participating in the Swim A Mile on April 30th, and I hope you will be able contribute with a donation. Since 2002, generous friends and family have helped me raise over $54,000! This goes a long way in allowing WCRC to continue their FREE services which include psychotherapy, support groups, art and wellness classes, community-based patient navigation, and information, as well as referral to community resources. As in the 2021 Swim A Mile, I will swim in honor of two strong and positive women, my aunt Linda McGrath, and my friend and swim teammate Susan Fuentes. Both of these women continue to face everyday with strength and a smile, as they work to “exterminate” and “live with” cancer. I am inspired and awed by their strength and positivity. Both have positive news to report since the last swim. •Aunt Linda, who underwent surgery for appendiceal carcinoma, is feeling stronger every day, balancing forward movement and the need for rest. She is regaining her independence and happy to be driving once again. •Susan continues to heal and has found success in targeted therapies, healthy eating, exercising and herbal supplementation. Thank you for your support. You can find more information about WCRC at wcrc.org. All donations are tax deductible. Sincerely, Kelly McGrath

This spring, I am once again swimming a mile to raise funds for the wonderful work of the Women’s Cancer Resource Center.Since 1986, WCRC has provided programs and a network of supportive services for women with cancer in the Bay Area. Its mission is to improve equitable access to cancer information, support, and care. This will be my 11th year supporting WCRC. The first time I swam was many years ago, long before I knew I would ever face cancer myself (but with my sister in mind). Now that I’ve been through it twice—the challenges of chemo and radiation in 2007 for anal cancer and two surgeries and more radiation in 2015 for breast cancer—I have a far greater understanding and appreciation of the work that WCRC does in helping women with cancer every day. I swim because I know how lucky I was. The people who took care of me in 2007, and again in 2015—the doctors, nurses, technicians, counselors, work colleagues, friends, and family—made all the difference in the world to me. I want other women who face cancer to have all the support they need. And that is exactly what the Women's Cancer Resource Center provides! All of WCRC's services are provided 100% free of charge -- thanks to the generosity of donors like you! You can donate here or send a check with my name in the memo to: The Women's Cancer Resource Center2908 Ellsworth StBerkeley, CA 94705Thanks in advance for your generous donation. Dear Friends and Family, On May 1 2022 at 10AM I will be participating in the Swim A Mile for Women with Cancer, and I hope you'll make a contribution in support of my participation! This event will take place at Mills College and is open to the public. If you want to attend / cheer me on feel free to do so and have some refreshments while you watch! My mom has benefited from many of the free services WCRC provides, especially the weekly support group for women with metastatic breast cancer. Being in a support group like this has helped my mom to not feel alone in her situation. The women in her group always provide new ideas on how to help manage symptoms, advocate for oneself and keep one’s emotional well being prioritized. I am starting with a goal of raising $1,000 but ideally pushing to raise more than I did last year, which was $3,411. Every gift no matter the size is greatly appreciated and means so much to my mom and me. Dear Friends, Again this spring, on May Day, I will be participating in the Swim A Mile / Move A Mile for Women with Cancer, and I hope you'll make a contribution in support of my participation! As all of you know, I make the yearly swim in honor of my daughter, Meighan Maguire, who survived Hodgkin's Lymphoma and has gone on to raise two fabulous boys - Jager and Alden Metz - in addition to earning her PhD., building a fabulous career and engaging in major volunteer efforts. This year I have a dear friend continuing her good fight against Lung Cancer - her name will also be on the Honor Wall; current advances in treatment have helped her maintain an active and healthy lifestyle. And just today, I learned of another good friend who is fighting Chronic Leukemia. Others of you have asked me to post honors for other fighters as well, including Julie's mom Angela, Jenny's Aunt Dee, and Michael's mom Kaye. I continue to honor several friends who are cancer survivors - Joan Goldenberg, Kathryn Conway, Mareva Godfrey, Sandra Mitchell, and Sue Cooper. I also honor other survivors who are very dear to our family - long-time friends Mikki Aaronoff and Dottie Yeoman, , and JoAnn Gordon and Lorraine Fraysse, our French cousins. Ed's friends Karl and Katie are also survivors. And this year I have been able Ron Edwall's sister Bev Walden as a survivor! Sadly in 2017, we lost my big brother Bill Holmes and Edith Byron (Alex's mom) and had to add them to the list of several others who did not make it - including my Tante Jeanette Couly, Melissa's good friend Rory Gaynor Berk, Alex's Aunt Phyliss, Dori's mother Lucile Robbins, Dave's stepmom Anne Wiley and his aunt Sally Wiley, who was also a former Lair tailgater, Ed Murphy's friend Rosemary, and Sandy's friends John and Tina Discon. In 2019 we lost Jim Appel, Mark's Dad, and Doug Best, our Lair Tailgate 'Souper Chef". In 2020 we lost another long-time tailgater to cancer, Craig Wiley, who is now reunited with his beloved Sally; we also lost one of the original Lair group campers when Joan Isola died. Steve's mom, Babette Vaught, died of ovarian cancer in 2011. If I missed anyone or if you have anyone else you would like me to honor, please let me know - whether or not you make a contribution. All of my honorees have their names posted on the Recognition / Remembrance Wall - I will share the pictures of your honoree cards with you. Dear Friends, This spring, I will be participating in the Swim A Mile / Move A Mile for Women with Cancer, and I hope you'll make a contribution in support of my participation! This is my 4th year. I will be swimming in honor of and in memory of those people in my life who have been impacted by cancer. I am also swimming with Team Doss. Doss is a fellow swimmer who I met in November of 2020 and have been swimming with her almost daily since, that is until she got diagnosed with cancer. It has been many months of treatment and I am happy to now celebrate her being cancer free. She has been an inspiration to many of us. Dear Friends, This spring, I am helping raise money for Women with Cancer. Every year the Women's Cancer Resource Center has a Swim a Mile fundraiser. While you won't catch me in a bathing suit, I created my own adventure, I call it the HAVE A CUP OF COFFEE and raise money for those in need. I hope you'll make a contribution in support of my participation! So much better than dealing with wet bathing suits and frizzy hair! Dear Family and Friends, I know you are thinking - didn't she just ask me for money for her annual Women's Cancer Resource Center swim? Well, first, it was not 'just,' it was about 6-7 months ago, and second, this wonderful organization is moving their annual swim event from October to April/May. So, I am coming back to you as I will be swimming a mile and walking a mile in the water on Saturday, April 30. If you want to join me, please let me know asap! I know you are being asked for lots of good causes, so, of course, please feel no obligation. If you are up for donating to this one, they (and I) would appreciate it. You can make a donation on this page, or send a check with my name in the memo to: Women's Cancer Resource Center2908 Ellsworth StBerkeley, CA 94705 And I promise, I will not be back until early spring next year asking for more for this one, anyway. Sending you all love and wishes for good health and ease, Sue

Dear Loved Ones, It's a new time of year... for the Swim A Mile! Next weekend (May 1), I will be participating in my favorite annual event to raise funds for the Women's Cancer Resource Center (WCRC). The event used to be in early October every year. The organizers made a smart decision to change it to the spring, when there's less chance of wildfire smoke in the air (as we've experienced over the past couple of years). So it may seem as if my annual email came up quickly ~ because it did! This will be the new tradition, a springtime Swim A Mile. :) This is year 19 for me. It occurs to me that I've participated in this event for exactly half the number of years that my mother has been gone. The life-changing loss of 38 years ago when she died of breast cancer has echoed through my life in so many ways. One of the more exquisite manifestations has been my desire to support people wrestling with the physical, emotional, spiritual challenges that a cancer diagnosis brings. I've found a really good home for that desire with the WCRC. It's the one organization that I truly believe in for ALL of the good it does, with heart, integrity, and grit. Some background on the WCRC: Since 1986, this loving - and beloved - organization has provided programs and a network of supportive services for women with cancer in the Bay Area. Its mission is to improve equitable access to cancer information, support and care. All of its services are FREE and funded entirely by charitable giving. I would love your support this year for the new Springtime Swim A Mile! It will directly help more than 2,000 people over the next year. You can make a donation on this page, or send a check with my name in the memo to: Women's Cancer Resource Center2908 Ellsworth StBerkeley, CA 94705 As I say every year, no amount is too small (or big!) – and if you can’t donate, at least send the name(s) of anyone you’d like to add to my prayer list. A mile+ in the pool gives me a lot of time to count everyone in my blessings…! Thank you for always caring. With much love, Kelly ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Friends, This spring, I will be participating in the Swim A Mile / Move A Mile for Women with Cancer, and I hope you'll make a contribution in support of my participation! I have participated in this event for many years now, previously held in October. But the last few Octobers have also brought smelly air due to the wildfires the same week. So the sponsors have to move the event to the spring. The Swim A Mile for Women with Cancer is a fun and inspiring annual fundraiser that benefits the work of the Women's Cancer Resource Center.
