Jan will make anyone donating over $50 to our team a cholangiocarcinoma themed recycle bag or join our team and make cholangioNOmore! The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation (CCF) is the only non-profit organization in North America exclusively dedicated to finding a cure and improving the quality of life for those affected by cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer). Approximately 10,000 people in the United States are diagnosed each year with this hard-to-diagnose, difficult-to-treat, fatal type of cancer. Cholangiocarcinoma is a rare but deadly cancer that has very little name recognition or awareness. Due to this lack of visibility, it is often overlooked as symptoms can mimic those of other illnesses and diagnosis comes too late. Conventional cancer treatments remain ineffective against cholangiocarcinoma, and most people diagnosed with advanced disease have less than a 5% chance of surviving at least five years. While almost 2 out of 3 people with bile duct cancer are 65 or older, people of nearly any age can be diagnosed. There has been an alarming increase in the past decade of young individuals being diagnosed in their 20’s, 30’s or 40’s.

My father, Joseph Lopardo, was the most amazing dad anyone could have asked for. My dad battled Cholangiocarcinoma bravely for fourteen months. His cancer journey did not end in the way in which we all hoped. I am “moving for a cure” so others’ journeys end differently. Please help me raise money to help find a cure for this horrible disease that robbed our family of more time with an incredible husband, dad, grandpa, and friend. Relevés for Research - For every $5 raised, I will do one relevé or pirouette on pointe! Cholangiocarcinoma is a rare and aggressive form of bile duct cancer that affects ~10,000 people in the U.S. each year. The cancer is difficult to diagnose and treat, and more research is urgently needed to develop new therapies. Cholangiocarcinoma research is important to me both personally and professionally. I lost a family member to the disease and currently work in a cancer research lab. Every day when I go to work, I feel a tremendous sense of optimism that better cancer treatments are on the horizon. To help raise funds for cholangiocarcinoma research and advocacy, I will do one relevé or one pirouette on pointe for every $5 raised. Thank you for your support! -Kelly

Why does the FREEdom from CCA team support Moving For the Cure? We "move" in hopes that other friends and families will not lose that infectious smile and laughter in their life as we did way too soon. We "move" to offer the hope new clinical trials can provide through our support. We "move" for awareness of a very rare cancer that sneaks up and attacks before anyone is aware due to that rarity. Approximately 10,000 annually and in the case of the CCA type Michael had approximately 1,000 nationwide. Those numbers still give us pause. We "move" for early detection for both patients and doctors. We "move" so this rare cancer can be defeated and smiles and laughter will continue for others for many years to come. We "move" to honor Michael, with the knowledge he would have wanted to help others too. My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 Cholangiocarcinoma April 2021 and it really turned our world upside down with the devastating news. My mom and our family has been through a lot since then, but we continue to pray, stay hopeful, positive and take it one day at a time. My mom is hands down the strongest person I know, she continues to fight hard everyday and is the most determined, strong willed person we know. While mom continues with her chemo treatments each week, her body remains strong. The cancer is staying stable which means it hasn't spread or grown, this is still a win. This year I will be fundraising and joining Moving for the Cure! Please consider donating to this cause and helping me reach my goal. Thank You! Joining Moving for the Cure in memory of my dad, who died from cholangiocarcinoma in 2012. We did not think he had any risk factors for getting this disease ... until we found The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation and learned so much from this community. He was a Vietnam Veteran, and we learned that his service was a HUGE risk factor due to exposure to agent orange and liver fluke parasites in South East Asia. Your support and donation of any amount, would make an immense difference in funding ongoing research for this rare disease. Randall (Randy) was a fighter. He is/was such an important person to me and his kids. He left behind 3 kids that his life revolved around. Randy fought for 13 months and 11 days, surpassing the original diagnosis, and making me so proud of the fight he put up. He will always be a warrior in my book. This horrible beast of a cancer is rare and aggressive with an extremely low survival rate if not caught immediately. More funding is needed and every little donation helps. Welcome! Brian was diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma in July 2021, one day before our daughter’s third birthday. He’s been rocking chemo and radiation while continuing to be an amazing daddy to Lucy and Robbie. There are not truly effective treatments for Cholangiocarcinoma and research is extremely underfunded. Please help us with a donation and sharing with friends and family. I created this team to support Cholangiocarcinoma research and support survivors going through this fight. My Mom, Rose Mayer, has Cholangiocarcinoma and is going through active treatment. This is a very rare and difficult cancer therefore research is so critical. I've pledged to raise $350 for the July 2022 movement event that I'll complete with my family and my Mom (depending on how she feels at the time). Hello everyone…… some of you may know some may not…. But Cholangiocarcinoma is something that has effected our family directly, until a few months ago we had never heard of this type of cancer, unfortunately we are learning more about it every day. Starting tomorrow we are going to be walking for not only this foundation and to raise awareness but for someone who is so close to us, I know times are hard and do not expect everyone to donate, but what I ask more than anything is for you to pray for our family member and to be able to raise awareness for this horrible disease. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
