Hi friends and fam! Sooo, if there’s one thing you know about me, it’s that I am passionate about animals! In every state I’ve lived (and there have been many) I have volunteered with local rescue organizations—fostering furbabies who are waiting on their forever homes, networking difficult-to-adopt little guys to find their right forever pawrents, and of course, foster failing (happily) with more than a few. Alaqua Animal Refuse (https://alaqua.org/) located in Florida is one of the organizations I’ve had the honor of working with--- they stepped up to help me with a long and sad rescue operation that I undertook in Miami. And they did so without hesitation or regard for funding. They took in almost 2 dozen very sick cats and kittens and helped nurse them back to health. I can tell you from personal experience that the only ROI in rescuing is the love and sincere gratitude you get from animals who make it, the “great vibes” that accompany doing something good for someone (and something) else, and karma points in the karma bank. Rescues are the leanest functioning operations out there, yet their mission is so important. I’ve committed to raising $1,000 for Alaqua Animal Refuge in this year’s Goat Games! The Goat Games were started by the Catskill Animal Sanctuary, which is another organization that helped me with a rescue operation I ran while in NY! They took in momma Henrietta and her 10 chickadees! (Daddy Henry sadly was killed before I could rescue him.) Alaqua is so excited to participate in this year’s Goat Games! Meet our Team Captain Hermione—our resident sanctuary goat—affectionately called "Squish" by everyone that meets her! She was surrendered to us with facial deformities that were most likely a birth defect. She has the sweetest personality and mannerisms. We just can’t get enough of her! She loves dressing up, getting her picture made, being an Alaqua ambassador at our public events, and meeting new friends. A staff, volunteer, and visitor favorite, Hermione is most deserving to be our 2022 Goat Games Team Captain! Please join our team and help Hermione and Alaqua take home the Goat Games Gold! Sully, his brother Isaac and their mom Sadie came to the Sanctuary in February 2022 after pregnant Sadie and dozens of other goats were rescued from extreme neglect. Thankfully, these precious boys will never know the hardship their mother endured before finding a second chance at happiness. They’ve known only kindness, love, and fun! Sully’s family lives with mama goat Autumn (rescued along with Sadie) and her twin baby boys Reece and Augie in a spacious field with lots of room to play and graze. Sully’s boundless energy and thirst for adventure make him the perfect team captain and those spectacular ears are going to fly Team CAS to victory and the GOLD! Through our innovative education programs, humans of all ages have the chance to embrace compassion and fall in love with animals like Franklin, our 2022 Goat Games Captain. Franklin was found alone on a busy highway on New Year's Eve. When he was brought to Indraloka, his complete terror of humans kept him on high alert. He wouldn't even lay down to sleep and shook with fright whenever anyone was close. He was weak, fighting pneumonia and a double eye infection that was so severe, it temporarily blinded him. But after just days in the care of our staff, surrounded by love and gentle hands, Franklin's fear lessened and then disappeared completely. Now, he spends his days with 2 new friends, Oreo and Oliver, running in the pastures and playing with no cares at all. His mischievous personality keeps us all on our toes but he loves hugs and snuggles from visitors. By joining Team Indraloka, you have the opportunity to help goats like Franklin and his many friends of all species. Here’s how it works: Register as an athlete for Team Indraloka and commit to run, walk, hike, bike, swim, or do an activity of your choice, anytime between Friday, August 12 through Monday, August 15, 2022.
