Cancer never comes at a good time. Little pink houses of hope came for my family at the perfect time. We had all been through so much and to just relax and be ourselves again was a the biggest blessing! We made life long friends and stayed at a beach house we’d never be able to stay at otherwise! And everything was taken care of, everything! It was such a treat! I’d love to give back and WIG out over an organization that gave SO much to us! We still get birthday cards and hellos on Facebook. I’m choosing to wig out for hope to raise money for others trips, to raise awareness of the program, and to show my appreciation!

On October 23, 2022, I received news you never want to hear, my Mom had been diagnosed with breast cancer. My Mom? No way. This was information you never expect your own Mom to share with you. Our family is no strangers to LPHOH. My Mom, Dad, wife, and I had the privilege to be volunstars at the Sedona Retreat in 2020. Lauren has since been a volunstar for the second time in Central Coast, California. My Mom has been a volunstar on 3 separate occasions and my mother and father in law have directed and volunteered on many retreats. LPHOH was part of our lives before Mom was diagnosed and now will forever be an even greater part of our lives. The experience of being a Volunstar is truly life changing and a week I will never forget. There is something special about making each day completely about a “stranger” and before you know it, their young boys feel like your younger brothers. When “Wigging Out” begins, Mom should be around half way through her chemo treatment plan. If Mom can crush chemo and all that still lies ahead, wearing a pink wig for 13 days is easy. Why? My Mom."

I was diagnosed with Stage 3 inflammatory breast cancer at the start of covid, as a 38 year old newly married mom of a 6 year old and two teenage bonus daughters. It rocked our world upside down. Only six months earlier, I had a physical done and was told that I had the body of a teenager - perfect vitals & stats. Going through active treatment during covid was very isolating, so much so that my husband didn't even meet my oncologist until 1.5 years after diagnosis, simply because he wasn't even allowed in the building due to covid protocols. My Little Pink retreat to Myrtle Beach in October 2021 was absolutely life changing for me. It allowed me to connect to other survivors for the first time ever, but not only that, my son and husband finally had a tribe too. Other care givers and children who had also been through the same things - we were all on the same playing field, no need for explanations. I'm eternally grateful for this opportunity and wildly dedicated to it's continued success.

September 22, 2021 is the day my life changed forever. “You have breast cancer!” Our family was devastated. I was in shock and didn’t know how I was going to get thru this. Pink Ribbons in October is usually all that people know about breast cancer. We didn’t ease into treatment we went full steam ahead. 16 chemo treatments, 25 radiation treatments, 1 case of sepsis and 9 surgeries. This was overwhelming to me. We survived on auto pilot. The emotional rollercoaster created chaos for our family. Cancer doesn’t just affect the patient; it affects the whole family. Little Pink Houses of Hope provided a free retreat in New Smyrna Beach, Florida for my family. We were blessed beyond measure. Little Pink has blessed our family on this painful journey. They have a saying “Hope is where my story begins” I am getting involved with the organization and I would appreciate your support!

Hey there everyone! My name is Ashley Fernandez, I’m 36 and have been living with Metastatic Breast Cancer (Stage 4) since April 2018. Last year Our Family was chosen to participate in a LPHOH retreat at Myrtle Beach , SC. The experience was life changing, we all connected with other families, made lasting memories and most importantly had a vacation away from Cancer. I often talk about this retreat because I found my people, ladies that just understand what I’m going through. These ladies have become my family. I want to help raise funds for this organization so others (families )can experience this as well. Thank you Little Pink houses of the opportunities you provide to breast cancer patients. All the volunteers were kind, fun and had a cloak of love that wrapped around each family. If you have it in your heart please join me in taking funds for Little Pink Houses of hope.

I have friends and family that are survivors of breast cancer. This disease impacts the entire family. LPHOH affords families the opportunity to just be a family without doctors, testing and treatments for at least one week out of the year. As a retreat volunteer, I was able to see the importance of just being able to breathe and relax. Our mission as a volunteer is to meet our families where they are and wrap our arms around them; I feel like they do that to the volunteers as well.

My husband and I were ecstatic when we received the news that we were selected to attend a Little Pink retreat. Then dread set in when we were looking at the cost of travel to the retreat. We were invited to attend the couples retreat in Buxton, NC and would have to fly and rent a car. On top of medical bills and everyday living expenses, we knew we couldn't afford to travel. For 10 months, we had lived our lives on cancer’s terms. Going to chemo, doctors’ appointments, surgery, and radiation had become are new normal. We knew we needed this trip to finally get our lives "back to normal." I reached out to a local organization who was able to pay for our flights, making the trip possible. The retreat was life changing. We went with the perspective of connecting as a couple again without cancer in the center of our world and left with our hearts filled. Not only did we reconnect as a couple, but we met other survivor couples who made significant impacts in our lives. We were able to connect with people who have similar stories and understood everything we experienced on our cancer journey. The friendships we made will last a lifetime and I want other cancer survivors to have the same opportunity we did. That is why I am asking you to give to Little Pink Houses of Hope … so other families can experience what we experienced without another financial burden.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer at 41 and my children were 15, 13, 10 & 7. After 2 years of surgeries, chemo, radiation, & immunotherapies, we were chosen to attend a Little Pink Houses of Hope retreat. It was such an uplifting, healing, and empowering experience. That week gave our family time to relax, have fun, and meet other families who understood exactly what we were going through. It was a tremendous gift to see my kids play and make friends with other kids who shared their experiences, and for my husband to have a break from caring for me and connect with other men. They thought of every detail and spoiled us all week. It was truly a blessing and an opportunity I wish every family impacted by breast cancer could experience. I have chosen to be a part of Wigging Out for Hope to give back to this organization that made such a difference in my life, and in memory of 3 of the women from my retreat.

After finishing my breast cancer treatments in 2017, I looked for organizations that would help families like mine. I didn’t want the typical organization but something extra special. I found that with Little Pink House of Hope. While other organizations help with different aspects, LPHOH helps families make memories. MEMORIES!!! Something that will last a lifetime. In a season where the future is unknown for so many, LPHOH brings the whole family together. For one whole week, families are brought in from across the country for a FREE week long vacation. They host these vacations in 10 different states and have 21 retreat locations! All meals and activities are provided. They have even started covering travel costs! The most beautiful family photos are taken and cherished well beyond their vacation. Friends are made and become extended families. I am honored to volunteer my time with these amazing families and LPHOH. It is something I look forward to yearly. I would be honored if you would be willing to support my fundraising efforts.

As a Little Pink board member I have seen the impact we have on families across the nation. Everyone has been affected by breast cancer in one way or another. In 2018 I lost my mother-in-law to breast cancer and the following year a good friend passed after a 20 year battle with this disease. I am doing this not only to honor their memory but also because I have seen how our organization has brought hope to the families and survivors we serve. In October 2021, I attended a Little Pink retreat as a participant and met four other wonderful women with breast cancer and their significant others. I had a week where I could escape from the daily reminders of my incurable illness and be pampered and experience many unique activities. The best part of my trip was the part that couldn't be bought, the bonding with other couples over this unfortunate sisterhood that we share. I want to give this opportunity to escape to others, especially those who can't afford it. Also, if I can increase awareness of Little Pink Houses of Hope, then that will also hopefully get others involved as volunteers and participants.

My wife is WHY I am Wigging out for HOPE! That, and we attended a Little Pink Houses of Hope Retreat in April, 2022 at Carolina Beach where we met, participated with, made new friends and cried our way through a week with 58 others, representing 11 other families plowing through the same journey as we were. We were the oldest participants.I was shocked to learn that our breast cancer journey was far different from others in the group and that there were so many women under the age of 40, with young children, at stage three and four. Young husbands with beautiful children hanging on their legs and cuddled in their arms not knowing how to reach out for help and a friend. Some of these husbands with tiny tots broke down on the last night around a glowing campfire on the beach thankful for a weeks 'vacation' with his family, quite possibly the last vacation they might have together. The least I and my wife can do is wear a pink wig or two to raise money for young families to cover expenses to an all expense paid week long vacation that might be their last . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

In 2015 following my husband having brain surgery and moving into a brand new house, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The next year was a whirlwind of appointments, tests, counseling, treatments, extreme side effects, and surgeries. I missed so much of my first and fifth graders school experiences. My husband stressed over losing the home we'd waited 18 years to get. And the Little Pink Houses of Hope came along. Our selection for a retreat to Key West FL was like fresh air breathed into our struggling bodies. From the excitement it brought my young kids to the chance for my husband to step back and relax for a week and a chance for me to connect with others in similar and worse shoes our retreat was an unbelievable pick me up for my family. Now I look forward to paying it forward to another family in need and helping this amazing organization.

Anyone who knows me knows I love a good wig! I wore wigs for years before breast cancer forced me to face hair loss. Typically, I wear wigs to express myself, but this time I'm wearing a wig for a great cause! Back in September of 2022, me and my family attended a week long retreat hosted by Little Pink Houses of Hope. This retreat included a lovely donated vacation home for us to relax in, connecting with other families who've been affected by cancer, planned activities that represented the most popular things to do in the area, sweet surprises (like welcome gift bags with all sorts of goodies for every one in the family to enjoy), a photo session - and the cherry on top is that this was all free of charge and we were surrounded by a team of people who loved on us and made sure to document those precious moments I might otherwise be too busy photographing myself to be fully present in. Needless to say, Little PInk Houses of Hope was a unique and valuable experience for us, and just the escape we needed. I'd love to help other families experience the same. Little Pink Houses of Hope is kicking their care up a notch and adding the coverage of travel expenses! That means additional funding is needed. I will be rocking a curly pink wig until my goal is reached, help me make that happen!

My family is beyond proud of Jeanine and this organization and the blessings it has been able to bring to so many families going through a breast cancer diagnosis. Please join me in supporting Little Pink so it can continue to reach more families and continue to bless both families and volunteers in its mission.

In the last year, both of my nieces were diagnosed with breast cancer, about 6 months apart. They are currently battling to become survivors, and I am very proud of them. They are my WHY. I am not new to Little Pink Houses of Hope. I have known Jeanine for many years...I was there when she held the first meeting to talk about her vision. So initially, my work with LPHOH was because of my connection to Jeanine. After I changed careers, I found I have more time to volunteer and be more involved with the work of LPHOH. I have worked with the Scholarship committee for several years. I've also volunteered for the Amazing Race, The Gala, and other events. I look forward to working with a retreat for the first time in the coming year.
