LET'S GO, NEDLY! In memory of my dear dad Ned Kenny, who left us too soon last year, I am running the 2023 NYC Marathon this November. Last time I ran a full marathon, I was 20 years younger, so I'm gonna need some miracles from Dad and from YOU! Dad's beloved godchild Meredith works tirelessly for the Women’s Housing and Economic Development Corporation (WHEDco), and as I train for the marathon, I am fundraising for this vitally important organization. Please help me achieve my fundraising goal by sponsoring one mile for $100, and I’ll think of you cheering me on when I hit that mile-marker! If you can’t give $100, please give what you can to help WHEDco in their work. WHEDco is a nonprofit that creates educational and economic opportunities for families living in the South Bronx – the poorest urban Congressional District in the country. WHEDco’s Home-based Childcare Programs provide women in the Bronx with avenues for financial security, while ensuring that the children in their care can grow and learn in safe, educational environments. Ned Kenny was one of five children, raised by a widowed schoolteacher. He knew firsthand that the whole world is better when mothers have support. He went on to become a teacher himself who showed his family and his students the value of education, service, and equity for all human beings. WHEDco is doing the work that he stood for and lived for. I know Dad is shining down on us all and that he will be with me this November. FROM MY HEART, I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH!!! Hi friends! I'm doing something crazy. I'm going to run the New York City Marathon. Yikes! But I'm doing it for a great cause, and I hope you'll support my efforts to fundraise for WHEDco and all the amazing work we do. As you may know, I work in the Youth Department at WHEDco where we serve over a 1000 students a year from birth through college. We strive to build equity, create memorable experiences and help children and families succeed. The Youth Department is just a small part of the services and resources WHEDco provides to families in the South Bronx. We also provide affordable housing, access to family services and support, home based child care services and support, small business development, and we soon will be opening a state of the art Music and Arts space.
