Grab a leash* and help APS reach our goal of raising $110,000 for the animals with the Walk For The Animals fundraising event! We can’t wait to be together again for our celebratory festival on May 27, 2023. Onsite registration begins at 9am; Program begins at 10am and ends around 1pm. Even if you can’t join us in person on that day, you can be a hero to the animals by raising funds in their honor. Fundraising starts the day you register and continues through the day of the festival. When you register for the Walk, you directly give Durham animals the second chance they deserve - to live the lives they have always imagined! It takes on average $300 to care for an animal during their stay with the APS of Durham. This includes life-saving vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, microchipping, parasite prevention and treatment, basic/preventative medical care, food, board, socialization and love. In addition to a robust pet adoption program, we facilitate low-cost spay/neuter surgeries for owned pets, host a Pet Pantry for people needing temporary support to keep their pets in their homes, and attend to medical emergencies for stray pets injured while away from home and the care of their owners. We are Durham’s Community Shelter. * please note: no flexi retractable leashes are allowed at the Walk! Must be standard leashes. Register today to secure your commemorative t-shirt, make your personal donation, set up your fundraising profile, and then share about your Walk campaign with friends and family to encourage them to give and support your personal fundraising goal. You can even start your own team. We’re all in this together! We can’t wait to see you on May 27th as we celebrate with animal lovers for the 1.5 mile walk around Duke University’s East Campus. We’ll have pet contests, agility stations, fun activities, raffles, vendors and more. All ages and well-behaved dogs are welcome. Together we can make a difference! Together we can Walk for the Animals!

APS Volun-TEAM

We are made up of dedicated aps Volunteers, where we change kitty litter; walk dogs; train dogs; let dogs play in playgroup; foster tiny kittens; bring in peanut butter, hotdogs, treats and more peanut butter!APS is more than a shelter to us. It's a place bursting with heart and hope. It is where dogs come with matted hair; where expectant cat moms come ready to give birth to kittens; where bunnies, birds, hamsters -- you name it-- come for care. It is where the volunteers and staff give their love to creatures of all sizes. It's a beginning for an animal who comes through our doors; the beginning of their transformation and journey to a new, loving home. There are so many ways to make a difference. Reading this email is one of them! Monetary donations are appreciated, but please consider volunteering, adopting, sharing posts or even dropping used towels off. Thanks for taking the time to learn about the shelter that we work so hard and pour our hearts into! It's not about how much anyone gives; it's that if great numbers take the time to give a small amount, it will carry the animals of Durham that much further.

I am raising $1,000 for APS of Durham, the Durham County Animal Shelter this May. APS of Durham is an important pillar of the Durham Community. They care for all local animals and provide a safe haven for lost animals and strays. In 2022, APS of Durham reunited over 500 animals with their families and cared for almost 5,000 animals. They accomplished this with the love and labor of a fantastic staff and dedicated volunteers. Some important goals for the shelter include providing spay/neuter services to the community and increasing community education. These services will help families afford to keep their family pets and make adding a pet to their family accessible. What can your donation pay for? $300 pays for the care of an animal$160 pays for basic medical care of an animal$130 feed every animal in the shelter for one day$70 pays to spay/neuter an animal$30 pays for a microchipAny donation helps us care for our community's homeless or neglected animals as we work to find them their forever home. My personal story with APS is one that many folks have heard. I started volunteering, fell in love with and adopted Penny, started fostering, and now I'm a "regular" volunteer, and the shelter is my second home. It is a gift to help care for the shelter animals and work alongside the staff and volunteers. But the animal shelter is old and outdated, animal surrenders are up, and adoptions are down. Durham's beautiful cats, dogs, and other miscellaneous creatures need your help. Please donate and share this fundraiser to help me raise $1,000!

DRAWS FOR PAWS (RAFFLE) GET A BARK CRAWL TICKET Grab a leash* and help APS reach our goal of raising $110,000 for the animals with the Walk For The Animals fundraising event! We look forward to being together again for our 23rd annual Walk on May 27, 2023. Onsite registration begins at 9am; the program begins at 10am and ends around 1pm. If you can’t join us in person on that day, you can be a hero to the animals by raising funds in their honor. Fundraising starts the day you register and continues through the day of the festival. When you register for the Walk, you directly give Durham animals the second chance they deserve - to live the lives they have always imagined! It takes on average $300 to care for an animal during their stay with the APS of Durham. This includes life-saving vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, microchipping, basic/preventative medical care, food, socialization and love. In addition to a robust pet adoption program, we facilitate low-cost spay/neuter surgeries for owned pets, host a Pet Pantry for people needing temporary support, and attend to medical emergencies for injured stray pets.
