These opportunities include service trips around the U.S. and abroad, on-campus activities like the Safe Trick-or-Treat program, food and clothing drives and mentoring of local children and teens, just to name a few. Ellen Casey Honors Program Research Award

The Ellen Casey Honors Research Award was founded in 2009 and provides funding for the costs associated with research projects conducted by University Honors Program students. Hundreds of University students have had the opportunity to participate in transformational research and experiential learning, without the burden of how they will fund their research. Funding is vital to help sustain the Honors Program Awards that are given out each year. Your donation will help additional students participate in undergraduate research that they may not be able to experience without the funding of this Award. "During the four decades I have spent at The University of Scranton, I’ve seen the benefits of students who enter the Honors Program, coupled with the financial benefit of the Research Award. The most rewarding part of my involvement with the honors program has been working with students, and seeing the possibilities the program has provided for them. The financial burden of affording the cost of research should never deter a student from their educational aspirations, and I hope with your support that we can continue to offer the award to many students, for years to come."- Ellen Casey Ph.D. See all of the 5.06 highlighted programs and our progress to 2,023 donors here!

An innately passionate professor, when not inspiring students or spending time with family he was acting as faculty adviser to The Aquinas, contributing to a multitude of committees, or authoring books on journalism. Mock Trial Team

The University of Scranton’s Mock Trial Team is a group of dedicated students who train and compete in mock trial competitions throughout the academic year. Our team is comprised of students from across the University, from freshmen to seniors, and we are coached by seasoned local attorneys who donate their time to developing us as mock trial competitors and as people. In a mock trial competition, students serve as attorneys and as witnesses and follow a typical court case process using fake case materials that are provided in advance. Teams are sometimes the prosecution or plaintiff, representing the guys bringing the lawsuit, and are sometimes the defense, supporting the person accused of doing wrong. Teams are scored on how well they perform as attorneys and how well their witnesses perform. Ideal students for mock trial can include pre-law students, business students, theater students – any student can benefit and be successful! Mock trial is an incredible opportunity for students to develop skills such as critical thinking, forming a persuasive argument, public speaking and thinking on your feet, which are essential whether you plan to attend law school or pursue another career. But most of all the team has fun, spending hours working together on case development, practicing arguments and traveling to competitions. Royal Experience Internship Program

At the end of their academic journey, job placement is of utmost importance for Scranton students. To prepare for their success, students are provided with opportunities to explore their career interests, gain new skills, and experience the world of work. Internships, specifically, are a critical part of integrating knowledge and theory from the classroom with practical application and skill development in a professional setting. Many times, students are offered internships with organizations that are not able to provide a salary or stipend. These costs may include travel to and from his/her destination, housing, living expenses, and/or tuition for internship credit. To relieve this financial burden, The Royal Experience Fund was created. This award provides stipends to undergraduate students who accept unpaid experiential learning opportunities. It is solely made possible by the generosity of alumni, parents, and friends, like you, who understand the importance of making possible these experiences that prepare students to become agents of change in our word.
