Please see the statement below to hear from Lauren, a junior setter from Kihei, HI, about why this fundraiser and cause is so important to her: My name is Lauren Albrecht and I am a member of the Louisiana Tech Volleyball Program. I am from Maui Hawaii, and I graduated from King Kekaulike High School in 2021. Recently, Maui endured devastating fires that tore homes, history, families, and lives apart. My community back home is mourning this tragedy as we all try to get everyone back on their feet. With thousands of families displaced, left without their homes, belongings, and everything they have ever known, my team thought it would be a good idea to do what we can to help. We are asking that you take the time to learn a little about what Maui has lost, as well as ways to contribute to its recovery. My team has set up this fundraiser with the Maui Food Bank to try and assist those in need with a little something to help. West went through a horrific experience during our West Fertilizer plant explosion. The town of Lahaina, Maui is going through a horrific experience right now and they could use our love and support. On Aug 8, 2023, high winds from a passing hurricane Dora caused massive destruction and then power lines fell & sparked fires with 80-100 mph wind gusts. The fires grew & spread too fast for anyone to keep up with. There was no way to contain it, no warning. They lost their whole town, their jobs, their schools, their friends & family members.
