City Youth Matrix provides opportunities for youth to flourish through enrichment programs. We help children and parents overcome the barriers that prevent them from experiencing any youth music, art, athletic, drama, or vocational program in Frederick. In general, the greatest barriers that exist are registration costs and transportation. We meet any costs necessary for recreational programs, as well as the more costly club and travel organizations. We have a fleet of volunteer drivers that are vetted and screened, insured, and fully trained. We have a family empowerment program that helps support the sustainability of our values. Even though our core mission is to provide opportunities for youth, the parent/guardian must be part of the City Youth Matrix experience. Our family empowerment program is closely related to the ALICE research and we are sensitive to the those families that are making strong efforts but coming up short with their survival budgets. At City Youth Matrix, we help break down barriers to give low income ALICE children and families opportunities. We remove the barriers of income, transportation and access that prevent children from participating in activities. We invest in training family liaisons, engaging parents and inspiring volunteers as part of our matrix of support.
Farm to School Frederick is on a mission to make locally grown, highly nutritious food available to all Frederick Maryland residents. We believe that equitable access to fresh fruits and vegetables should not be a luxury but is a necessity that can have a dramatic positive influence on individual and community health. Our mission is carried out by fostering a collaborative network of Frederick farmers, community organizations, businesses, community members, schools and institutions united in the shared objective of promoting local agriculture and enhancing the health and well-being of all our Frederick residents from the youngest and oldest among us.
Boys & Girls Club of Frederick County is the premier youth development organization in Frederick County providing children with the highest quality programs and opportunities for success. The mission of Boys & Girls Club of Frederick County is to enable all youth, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as responsible, productive, caring citizens. All children deserve to THRIVE, but many Frederick County families struggle to afford basic needs, including childcare. Boys & Girls Club of Frederick County is a safe, fun, uplifting after-school Club and summer camp where kids learn valuable life skills, build lasting friendships, experience new opportunities, and learn to chase their dreams. Great Futures Start Here!
Growing up as a latch-key child, I realized early on the value of having supportive adults and enriching opportunities. While my journey may have lacked some of the structured guidance that organizations like the Boys & Girls Club provide, it's shaped my perspective and fueled my passion for ensuring every child has access to such resources. Now, as both a new uncle and an employee at the Boys & Girls Club of Frederick County, I witness the diverse challenges that today's kids face. It's not about dwelling on what I missed, but rather about recognizing the potential to make a positive impact in their lives. From academic hurdles to social pressures, every child deserves the chance to thrive. That's why I'm deeply committed to supporting the Club's mission. By contributing to this vital organization, we're investing in the future of our community. Together, we can provide the guidance, opportunities, and encouragement that every child needs to succeed. Join me in being a catalyst for #GreatFutures – because every child deserves the chance to reach their full potential.
Supporting Black-owned businesses is an effective way to close the racial wealth gap, promote economic opportunity, and empower Black entrepreneurs and communities. Closing the racial wealth gap helps to address systemic inequalities and fosters a more inclusive and equitable society. Tons of data show that Black-owned businesses face greater barriers when starting and scaling their businesses. The latest ALICE report revealed that more than 36% of Frederick County households struggle to afford basic needs such as housing, transportation, childcare, food, health care and technology. Black households in Frederick County take the lead when it comes to poverty and are second place when it comes to being at the ALICE survival threshold. Funds raised through the Unity Campaign will support SOUL Street's vendor Scholarship Fund, which will cover fees for Black ALICE individuals looking to start/grow their businesses and earn a passive income through selling at our markets and attending our educational events. About SOUL Street SOUL Street was founded in July 2020 when we launched our first round of pop-up markets. In 2021, we started Frederick's first-ever Black-Owned farmer's market. Since then, three Black-owned businesses have turned their hobbies into businesses with us and have successfully grown and expanded into brick-and-mortar locations. Five business owners who started with us have expanded into commercial kitchens, and many others continue to grow. We continue to serve as an open-air incubator for Black-owned businesses to grow and raise capital. Mission: SOUL Street empowers the Black business community through events, outreach, advocacy, and education. Vision: SOUL Street aims to create economic opportunity for every member of the Black business community in Frederick County while rebuilding Black generational wealth.

Children of Incarcerated Parents Partnership (COIPP) is a small but mighty group of individuals dedicated to children in Frederick County who have a loved one incarcerated. All families served by COIPP are presently within the ALICE threshold or below the poverty line. Your donation today will not only reduce suffering among children in Frederick County but will provide educational opportunities, joyful events to strengthen the bond with their families, and parenting classes so that the child can strengthen their relationship with their parents. John and I will be hosting several events to support. Please consider making a meaningful gift to this campaign to attend the event. More information to come! COIPP: This mission is to foster the growth of strong, resilient, hopeful children who are impacted by an incarcerated loved one in the Frederick County Region. As an advocate and support system for children impacted by having a loved one incarcerated, COIPP has defined five core programming elements to address the emotional, physical, educational, and mental needs of the child as well as build and strengthen community. Our five-core programming include basic human needs distribution; children’s activities and correspondence; parental workshops and classes; monthly Caregiver Respite support groups; and educational opportunities. Childhood literacy is deeply woven into each aspect of our programming and services. Based on growth of participants as well as feedback from programs, COIPP’s core programs and services are positively impacting children and reducing overall trauma associated with incarceration in Frederick County.
Adult Literacy is a Survival Skill ... Knowing How to Read, Write, and Communicate Saves Lives ... Yet ... more than 25,000 Frederick County adults lack the literacy skills needed to function in society. This number includes people who are learning English and native English speakers who are all our neighbors. Literacy is listening, speaking, reading, writing, navigating and belonging. Without knowing how to read, how can someone understand directions on a medicine bottle or on a map? Without knowing how to write, how can someone fill out a job application? Without knowing English, how can a parent respond to a message from their child's school? Many of our students fall within the population of Marylanders mentioned in the ALICE Report. Despite working multiple, low-paying jobs, these adults and their families can’t make ends meet. The COVID-19 crisis has added to their plight. How do they keep their jobs, support their children's schooling, and access health resources? The Literacy Council of Frederick County (LCFC) is providing a lifeline for these people in many ways by teaching everyday life skills. Our Impact ... 60 Years of Lifting Lives through Literacy in Frederick County 357 adult learners who support 438 children 236 adult learners in the Tutoring Program supported by 140 volunteer tutors 191 adult learners attended the weekly Community Class Program 41 community classes taught by 14 volunteer instructors 5 Parent classes & 21 family literacy events with 6 FCPS elementary schools & the Judy Center in the Parent Literacy Program 37 employees in hospitality and manufacturing jobs attended 8 classes in the Workplace Literacy Program 74 new volunteer tutors & class instructors trained in 8 tutor training workshops 178 volunteers contributed 14,322 volunteer hours 10,000+ adult learners served since 1963!! With over 1 in 3 Frederick County households struggling to afford basic needs, this will be a vital funding source to reduce suffering, provide opportunity, and build a better future for our struggling neighbors. I couldn't be more proud to lead our amazing team at Farm to School Frederick! We are on a mission to increase access to locally grown, highly nutritious food for all Frederick residents. We believe that equitable access to fresh fruits and vegetables should not be a luxury but is a necessity that can have a dramatic positive influence on individual and community health. What we do just makes sense! We help create new markets for Frederick County farmers so they can keep farming. We purchase locally grown foods and deliver them directly to food insecure communities, and we advocate on behalf of all parents, caretakers and educators for FCPS to increase purchases of locally grown, highly nutritious foods for the school lunch program. Our school meal programs truly are the nation's largest prevention initiative offering an incredible opportunity to impact academic achievement, student health and prevent chronic disease. It's not easy - but it can be done - and Farm to School Frederick is here to help. Let's do this together. Growing for a healthier tomorrow! ~Alysia
Close your eyes and imagine knowing some core part of you is rejected by society. And you’re scared of yourself, of life being different and you try to contain it but it grows like an invasive plant that kills every positive feeling in you as you contain it. You might think “this is 2024. Who is rejecting lgbtq?” But even at Frederick Pride, we have protestors. I promise you, I’m treated differently with my girlfriend than I used to be. The contrast in treatment can range from inconvenient or annoying to scary. Even here. 21 states have hostile laws that are literally killing children as they look the other way. That is why The Frederick Center matters. In Worth the Wait, the support group I cofounded, this is the story we hear repeatedly. Fear permeating everything. And they walk into this building and feel love as they figure out who they are and are never judged for the journey to be able to finally look in the mirror without hating who is looking back at them. We hold the honor of watching people’s life come back in their eyes. HUNDREDS of LGBTQ+ (especially T) individuals are moving here from unsafe states. The Frederick center is an essential resource for so many. Please consider donating to allow this org to grow and serve a vulnerable population. LOVE ALWAYS WINS. The Frederick Center exists to support and advocate for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) people and our families so we thrive, accepted and affirmed, in the broader Frederick community.

City Youth Matrix is making a difference in the lives of so many children in our community. So many of us take for granted being able to have our kids participate in the extra curricular activity of their choosing. However, CYM recognizes that not all children have those same opportunities.
