On Campus SEED Garden. This project is intended to resurrect the SEED Garden. The grant will pay student stipends for the upkeep of the SEED (Sustainability Education & Engagement Destination) Garden located on Osceola St. on the FAMU campus. The student workers will be paid a stipend of $12 per hour for 10 hours per week for 16 weeks. There will be two student workers per semester including fall, spring, and summer annually. Students must have at least a 2.8 GPA to qualify.

The hired students will work with the administration of the Sustainability Institute to perform the following duties in the garden:

  • Plan the garden layout
  • Till soil with amendments
  • Help develop connections with local communities
  • Schedule presentations to community groups
  • Harvest vegetables for healthful consumption locally
  • Other tasks that arise throughout the semester.

We will know  the impact of this grant after the first year when we can measure the number of new community SEED Gardens around the state, and the number of students involved.
