Alfred State College Development Fund Inc
The 2024 Hemmings Motor News Great Race presented by Coker Tire will start in Owensboro, Ky., on Saturday, June 22. The Great Race, the world’s premiere old car rally, will bring 120 of the world’s finest antique automobiles to town for this event. The 9-day, 2,300-mile adventure will travel to 19 cities in Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Maine.
Alfred State has done the Great Race from 2015-2019. We took a long hiatus because we blew up the power wagon engine on the 2018 Great Race. In 2024- We are back! and it is exciting to use the 1953 Dodge Power Wagon on the Great Race because it has been school owned since the early 1960s. The truck is always a big hit at the Great Race and the fans love to see it. 5 students will be traveling this year- Spencer Caccamise, Carter Polhamus, Tanyon Dunning, Connor Merkle, and Garrett Maul. They are a mix of motorsports and auto students. They have also been the ones to install the new engine and get the truck completely ready for this race. The students will also be the ones driving and navigating during the whole 2,300-mile race. We are the only X-Cup team (college/school team) to let students drive the vehicle during the race. Our students also help fix other team's cars during the 9-day race. Anything from engine swaps in a parking garage to changing brakes in a hotel parking lot.
We are asking for your help with support to this year's crew. Thank You for your passion to Alfred State and our wonderful students!
