Why Brooks is Raising Funds for Aloha BackPack Buddies

Brooks recalls, “In 2012, I learned about the extraordinary work that Aloha Backpack Buddies provides, serving meals to meet the important fundamental nutritional needs of Maui’s school children. Brooks says, “Being a survivor myself of dire, desperate, life threatening circumstances, knowing the pain and suffering of desperately struggling to overcome real challenges life presents, I enthusiastically began volunteering in the production and operation of the annual Bocce Ball Tournament fundraising events at Mulligans On The Blue that benefit Aloha Backpack Buddies!”

Brooks draws the parallel between his musical mission in writing, recording, and performing his original songs and the mission of Maui Food Bank’s Aloha BackPack Buddies program. Brooks states, “We both share our utmost desire to make a positive impact by what we do and in doing so, touch hearts and lives offering a message of hope and encouragement to “press on” in the face of what life “throws” at you!”

Volunteer of the Decade!

Recently, Brooks was given the “Volunteer of the Decade” award for his 10 years of continuous involvement and dedicated service to the annual Bocce Ball Tournament. Through his volunteer experience in the fundraising events, Brooks witnessed the growth in funds raised, and how this growth fueled the growth of this incredible program’s positive impact on the lives of more and more of Maui’s children. Witnessing firsthand the program's expanding benefit, Brooks was inspired to do more!

Beginning in 2021, Brooks has begun sharing the Aloha Backpack Buddies success story during both his live music concerts as well as in his weekly live streams broadcast on his Facebook music page, official YouTube channel and his Twitter page! He also promotes and provides an opportunity for his audience to make direct donations to the program and personally donates a percentage the net proceeds from designated concert ticket sales and donations made during his live streams!

Brooks says, “It feels great to utilize my creativity to create greater awareness of this amazing program and to further contribute to the beneficial work that Aloha Backpack Buddies is doing to stem hunger in Maui’s children!”
