A LETTER FROM THE EVENT ORGANIZER
If you knew Megan Thrash, you loved her. Her smile, her laugh, her genuine kindness, and her compassion for others made it impossible not to adore her instantly. And, for the best 13 years of my life, I was lucky to be the special person in hers.
For three of those years, my wife Megan battled cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer) with unbelievable bravery and poise. She celebrated the victories when her treatments were working as planned. When visited by the dark clouds of bad news, nasty side effects, or poor prognosis, she did her best to find the silver lining. She mentored other cholangiocarcinoma warriors; participated in the annual, amazing “Quack Out Cholangio” fundraising walks; and documented her struggles and triumphs via a YouTube channel and social media community she founded, Terminal Yet Purposeful.
Yet, she was never defined by the disease that cruelly took her from us last October. Instead, she sought to lead her life with the same purpose she proclaimed in her YouTube videos. She lived and loved fully, making goals including more traveling (which she loved more than most things), spending quality time with her nieces (ditto), and generally doting over her family, friends, and pets. She was truly an inspiration.
Another goal Megan made? Throw her goofy ol’ husband a 40th birthday party. While she sadly did not make it this far, her memory is very much still with us (and always will be). And so, just weeks before I turn 40—and in memory of our dear, sweet, Megan Thrash, who gave of herself so freely and generously to others—it is my honor to organize this “party” on her behalf.
All donations generated from this page, along with any additional donations made at the event, will be given in full to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, which was such an invaluable resource to Megan (and the countless among us who loved her) in the months and years following her diagnosis.
