My name is Nancy (Kaffke) Blank, I have been inspired by my niece Alicia to Hike and raise funds to bring awareness to the disease Ataxia. Spinocerebellar Ataxia (SCA) has affected my entire family. I have lost all three of my siblings to this disease process. First, my brother Fred at the age of 46. Then, my sister Susan (Alicia's mother) at the age of 55. Just recently, I lost my younger sister, and best friend Ruthie who had just turned 50. I am the only child who did not inherit the Ataxia gene.
Since this disease is so rare we have been left to navigate this process blindly. Not many doctors have experience with Ataxia. I would love for there to be more research for the future generations of our family.
I am Hiking not only to honor my siblings memory, but for the lives and health of all my nieces and nephews!!!

Thank you for showing interest in Go the Extra Mile 2019!

Hike day is May 26th 2019 at 10:00 A.M.
Location: Brookhaven State Park
Please RSVP by May 19, 2019 to Alicia at [email protected]
150,000 people in the United States alone are affected by some form of Ataxia.

To celebrate the 62 years that The National Ataxia Foundation has been helping families we will be walking a collective amount of 62 miles. The more people that join, the less we will have to walk! (The minimum hiking distance will be 3 miles.)
My goal is to raise $5,000 or more, and invite you, your friends and family to participate by joining on May 26th 2019 or making a contribution or even as little as passing the word along. All donations will be made to The National Ataxia Foundation in support of their mission and are tax-deductible.
If you have any questions for me please email Alicia at [email protected]
