Joanna Kirk – Jo to her multitude of friends – touched so many lives in her time at Geneseo. She was an incredible colleague, advocate, and team member. But it was her role as teacher where she had the most significant impact. At her memorial service on August 28 – many former students attended and spoke of the lasting influence Jo had on their lives. They shared that just taking one of Jo’s classes made them want to take all of her classes, some even choosing a major so Jo could be their advisor.
As someone who traveled the world, Jo had a true appreciation of the importance of experiencing various countries and cultures. She also understood the cost students incur while studying abroad. In 2002 Jo and Chuck Strickland began contributing funds to establish the Joanna Kirk One World Service Scholarship Endowment which provides funds for students planning to conduct research or engage in service learning during a semester-long or year-long study abroad program. This scholarship will be significant to students for years to come.
Please consider making a gift towards the endowment that meant so much to Jo and ensures her lasting memory.
