University of Arkansas - Fort Smith
Nontraditional students have nontraditional costs. Your donation will help ADCP students pay for things like prior learning portfolio credits and CLEP exams as well as tuition and fees.
The Adult Degree Completion Program serves adults 25 or older who work full-time and have at least 30 college credits. Students can receive course credit for their professional experience, military training, and volunteer work through a respected portfolio process. Students in the program work toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Leadership or a bachelor’s degree in General Studies. They take eight-week online courses, allowing them to complete four courses in one semester.
Many ADCP students have families to support. Portfolio credits are $120, CLEP exams cost nearly $100, and books can cost more than $100 per course. Having a degree means significantly greater lifetime earnings, but in the short term, college expenses added to housing, children’s needs, and grocery bills can be a losing equation. These adult students are not eligible for many scholarships. This ADCP Scholarship Fund directly assists adult learners by relieving some financial burdens.
The best part of my day is when students email me about something exciting, or they meet with me for advising. They almost give me credit for their accomplishments. But they just needed the right people to remove the barriers for them. – Heather Scheurer, ADCP advising coordinator.
