Welcome!

Thank you for your interest in the Richard Wright Center for Writing, Rhetoric, and Research.

At JSU we all write! And all writers need feedback.

The Richard Wright Center is a campus-wide and community resource that supports students, faculty, and staff in their efforts to become better writers, speakers, and researchers, and it is central to the larger mission of Jackson State University.

Led by Director, Dr. Kathi Griffin, and Coordinator, Dr. Tatiana Glushko, the Richard Wright Center provides an environment for intellectual engagement where JSU students of all levels and disciplines can engage in one-to-one conversations about their academic written, oral, visual, and research projects and receive feedback from trained peer tutors.

Richard Wright Center tutors create a unique educational environment that facilitates peer learning, collaboration, reflection, and critical thinking—hallmarks of excellent higher education.

We invite you to support and sustain the efforts of our tutors. With your support, we plan to

  1. Increase the number of trained peer tutors in writing from 7 to 25
  2. Provide stipends for professional development opportunities, such as conference attendance and participation, research and writing articles for publication, and more.

Your support will also allow us to promote writing on campus through hosting open-house gatherings, developing and producing a semiannual newsletter, hosting recruitment gatherings, end-of-year celebrations, and possibly bringing writing scholars and Richard Wright Center alumni to campus.

When you donate to the Richard Wright Center, you help strengthen and grow the sense of intellectual, professional community among students within the center and across campus.

Be the first person to donate to the cause!
