Trivia Question: Who was the last college football team to score over 200 points in a single game?

If you guessed King College, congratulations!  On October 21, 1922, the King College football team, led by team captain Arnold “Finney” Finnifrock and quarterback Max Osburn, King College defeated Lenoir College 206-0 in the second-highest scoring college football game in history.

The next day, the Associated Press picked up the story which was then published in hundreds of newspapers across the country, including the New York Times, Boston Globe, San Francisco Chronicle, and Detroit Free Press.   The headline read "King College's Victory Was 'Tornado' Of Week's Games,” giving birth to the Tornado nickname and a century of tradition.

This year, we commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Tornado, celebrating a rich tradition of athletic success born on that beautiful Fall day in Bristol 100 years ago.

We hope you will join us in celebrating this important anniversary by supporting our current student-athletes carrying on the Tornado tradition.  The success of our current student-athletes rests firmly on the shoulders of all Tornado alumni through the years, including that phenomenal 1922 football team.

To commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Tornado, we are seeking 206 donors of at least $100. What better way to honor our past than investing in our current Tornado and helping us continue to elevate and enhance the student-athlete experience at King?

While our goal is 206 donors of $100 or more, gifts of all sizes are welcomed and may be designated for a specific team, or to the Tornado Athletic Club general fund which provides support to all 28 varsity programs.
