Dancing for Family Services of Northeast Wisconsin
I believe when God wants you to grow, he makes you uncomfortable. Although I haven't attempted a choreographed dance in 28 years since my unsuccessful cheerleading tryout, participating in NEW DWOS is a unique opportunity for me to step outside of my comfort zone and showcase the importance of one of our community's most valuable organizations.
Family Services of Northeast Wisconsin provides imperative services to the children and families in our community. Their goal is to ensure that every child has access to the resources necessary to thrive. This includes programs that focus on preventing child abuse and neglect, offering mental health counseling, and providing home visitation services to families in need. Their mission is to have a community where children are thriving, families are strong, and individuals are healthy. By working together, we can create a brighter future for our community and the generations to come.
Having grown up as the child of teenage parents and raised by a single mother, I understand the challenges that can arise. I am now a mother of two boys and have experienced firsthand that even with a supportive spouse, resources, and family, parenting can be challenging. Nevertheless, it remains one of the most impactful roles we have in life. It truly takes a village to raise a child, and the programs that Family Services provides play a crucial role in supporting families and giving children the best possible start in life.
By taking on this challenge, I hope to inspire others to take risks and pursue their passions, even when it feels uncomfortable or challenging. I’ve been on the Board of Directors for Family Services for 14 years and my time (and many terms) have sadly come to an end. Dancing in honor of this amazing staff and all the work they do will be my powerful finish as a board member.
