Welcome to our New Dawn virtual visit and fundraiser!
The Friends of Batahola is dedicated to supporting the people of Nicaragua through prayer, solidarity and financial support. We have supported the work of our friends at the Cultural Center of Batahola Norte in Managua, Nicaragua for over 20 years.
The Cultural Center’s priority is to work with the women and children who most bear the weight of social and economic inequity, to break the cycle of poverty and restore hope in a better tomorrow. That objective is at the heart of the Center’s mission to empower and transform its students and community through access to education, arts and culture. Since 1983, the Center has helped thousands of women, children and youth to defend their rights, finish their schooling, find and develop new sources of income, and improve their standard of living.
Anyone who has had the privilege of visiting the Center quickly falls in love with the colorful murals and the inspiring people they meet there. Unfortunately the sociopolitical crisis and global pandemic have made it difficult to visit the Center and stay connected with our friends in Nicaragua. Thankfully with the help of technology we want to share with you what has been happening at the Center through a virtual visit. Even though we can’t be together in person, now we can be connected and inspired from the comfort of our home.
The history of Nicaragua is wrought with conflict and trauma, but also with hope. Time and time again Nicaraguans have overcome hardships and found light during dark times. Now more than ever we need some hope and light to guide us forward. At the Center, a popular phrase is “mañana es un nuevo amanecer” or “tomorrow is a new dawn.” This reminds us that each day God gives us a new opportunity and new hope.
If you are inspired by the work the Center is doing, we hope that you will make a donation. We also invite you to spread the word so more friends join us in solidarity.
