Berkeley Senior Services (BSS) provides a variety of services for seniors throughout our community that enable them to remain in their own homes where they are most comfortable rather than having to be placed in long-term care facilities. Below is a list of all the available programs that are offered:

The In-Home Care team provides Personal Care and Homemaker services for homebound seniors and disabled seniors under several different programs depending on the level of disability of the client, income, and informal support.

A variety of support is also provided for families who are caring for a loved one with an Alzheimer’s or Dementia diagnosis from the Caregiver Support Services Department. A Caregiver Support group is offered on a monthly basis which provides an opportunity for family caregivers to share experiences and challenges they face with other caregivers. Another opportunity for caregivers is Respite services. Through this program, a trained BSS staff member is in the home of participants leading activities specifically designed for clients with the onset of Dementia or Alzheimer’s, while the Caregiver is relieved to run errands, do their shopping, or simply relax.

Transportation services are available for those needing to attend medical appointments, run necessary errands, and to and from the Senior Center for numerous activities that are offered.  Lunch is served on site at the Senior Center daily. Meals are also delivered to specific sites within our community as well as to homebound seniors. All meals served include 1/3 of the daily nutritional value needed.

Daily wellness programs, including education, low-impact aerobics, line dancing, health assessments, cultural and recreational activities are offered at the Senior Center located on High Street.  AARP Safe Driving Courses and Disease Prevention Workshops are also conducted throughout the year.

The Unity Campaign is a 15-day fundraiser powered by United Way of the Eastern Panhandle. In its fifth year, the annual fundraising campaign supports area nonprofits that provide health, education, basic needs, and financial stability programs to individuals and families in the Eastern Panhandle.

During the 15 Days of Giving from March 1 - 15, donors can contribute to any of the participating agencies and 100% of their contribution will go directly to the nonprofit organization of their choice.

There are no administrative fees assessed to funding distributions and a portion of all donations will be matched through an incentive fund.
