History
The match follows in the tradition begun 29 years ago by longtime Allendale resident Mike Carey. Sparked by his love of rugby and network of players around the world, Mike began inviting teams to play a match against players from this area.
Past Memorial Day opponents have included the Morris Old Boys, Rockland Rogues, AJ Foundation XV, PA; Pentyrch RFC and Glynneath RFC from Wales; the London Irish, London French and London First XV. These teams have featured players from England, Ireland, France, Scotland, Wales, Australia, New Zealand and throughout the world.
The Allendale Old Boys side features players from Allendale and throughout the area who have played with various college and men’s club teams through the years. Many have toured together to the U.K. In addition, past opponents often return to play as guest players on the Allendale or visitor sides during this charity match.
Sports fans from throughout the area are invited to come see exciting, hard-hitting rugby action at beautiful Crestwood Lake Park and support a worthy cause. You may also join us for post-match festivities that evening at the Allendale Bar & Grill.
