Bruce is a retired passenger screening explosives detection canine for TSA/DHS. He was assigned to his only handler, Ty Bilton, in June 2016. They graduated as a pair from the National Explosives Detection Canine Team Program at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX, in September 2016. During his career, Bruce worked regularly at Charlotte Douglas – CLT (2016-2017) and Phoenix Sky Harbor – PHX (2017-2021) airports. He also worked temporary duty assignments at Los Angeles – LAX and San Diego – SAN airports. Additionally, Bruce worked to supplement security measures at numerous ASU football games, and once with the Secret Service during a Presidential Campaign visit in 2020. Bruce loves hanging out with other dogs. He’s gentle and fun-loving. He enjoys playing fetch with anything “round” and “yellow”, from tennis balls to lemons. Bruce is always in the mood to savor a tasty treat, or receive a good petting!

Working K9s perform a variety of occupations alongside their Handlers ensuring our public is safe from threats or danger, along with protecting our country domestically and abroad. They are typically classified as equipment with their medical needs NO longer funded once their service is completed. Often times they have accelerated health issues like hip dysplasia or PTSD as a result of their years in the field.

Paws of Honor is a nonprofit providing continued quality routine and specialized veterinary care to ALL retired Military and Law Enforcement K9s no matter the department, agency, or branch of service at no cost to the Handler who becomes financially responsible for them upon retirement. Through Paws of Honor’s Veterinary Affiliates continued medical care is provided to each retired K9 enrolled in our Veterinary Care Program.
