Calliope worked for the United States Federal Government as an Explosive Detection Canine for 7.5 years (2015-2023). During her career she was assigned to duties all over the Metro D.C. area as well as several overseas posts. Calliope served on 9 deployments totaling 541 days to multiple warzones. In her downtime she loves to sunbath on her patio, give her baby brother lots of kisses, take lavish naps, lounge in the pool and play in the snow. She competed in: USPCA Region 3 2021 Top Finish Overall- Explosive Detection Trial-3rd place. USPCA Region 3 Explosive Detection Trial 2016 3rd Place Team, USPCA Region 3 Explosive Detection Trial 2017 2nd Place Team.
Working K9s perform a variety of occupations alongside their Handlers ensuring our public is safe from threats or danger, along with protecting our country domestically and abroad. They are typically classified as equipment with their medical needs NO longer funded once their service is completed. Often times they have accelerated health issues like hip dysplasia or PTSD as a result of their years in the field.
Paws of Honor is a nonprofit providing continued quality routine and specialized veterinary care to ALL retired Military and Law Enforcement K9s no matter the department, agency, or branch of service at no cost to the Handler who becomes financially responsible for them upon retirement. Through Paws of Honor’s Veterinary Affiliates continued medical care is provided to each retired K9 enrolled in our Veterinary Care Program.
