Dutch worked from 2012-2022 in Springfield Missouri. He was originally assigned to another handler and then was assigned to me in 2019 and was my first dog. Dutch now enjoys life on 30 acres and loves stealing my kid's food. His favorite treats are apples probably from on patrol when I would give him my apple when I was done with them. He loves going for walks with my two other dogs and loves his squishy beds now. He doesn't even tear them up anymore.

Working K9s perform a variety of occupations alongside their Handlers ensuring our public is safe from threats or danger, along with protecting our country domestically and abroad. They are typically classified as equipment with their medical needs NO longer funded once their service is completed. Often times they have accelerated health issues like hip dysplasia or PTSD as a result of their years in the field.

Paws of Honor is a nonprofit providing continued quality routine and specialized veterinary care to ALL retired Military and Law Enforcement K9s no matter the department, agency, or branch of service at no cost to the Handler who becomes financially responsible for them upon retirement. Through Paws of Honor’s Veterinary Affiliates continued medical care is provided to each retired K9 enrolled in our Veterinary Care Program.
