Paws of Honor has joined forces with Hurricane’s Heroes to help retired Military and Law Enforcement working K9s across the country receive the veterinary care they deserve!

K-9 Endo was selected in September of 2012 to join the Volusia Sheriff's Office Canine Unit. After completing training he went on to serve as a faithful partner to Deputy Brett Whitson. K-9 Endo has always loved more than anything riding in the back of his patrol car. K-9 Endo traveled to Alabama for a K-9 seminar when he was still working and most recently traveled to the Nation's Capital where he was awarded a very special medal. K-9 Endo's favorite treat it whatever dad was eating, he's not picky. In his retired downtime he enjoys posing for picture in the yard while his Deputy Whitson's daughter practices her photography skills.

K-9 Endo was awarded TOP DOG amongst both drug and bomb detections K-9’s on December 16th, 2014, during the Southern Coast K-9 Annual Drug and Bomb Detection seminar besting over 100 other K-9 teams from around the country. On February 9th, 2016, K-9 Endo was awarded the Purple Heart and Medal of Valor from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office for his role in apprehending a violent felon who also shot K-9 Endo during the apprehension. These awards made K-9 Endo the most decorated Police K-9 in the history of the Volusia Sheriff’s Office. On May 5th, 2016, Deputy Brett Whitson and K-9 Endo were awarded the “Spirit of Law Enforcement” award at the Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida banquet. On November 17th, 2016, K-9 Endo was again awarded the TOP DOG amongst both drug and bomb detections K-9’s during the 19th annual Southern Coast K-9 Drug and Bomb Detection seminar beating out over 100 hundred other K-9 teams from around the county. On November 11th, 2019, K-9 Endo was awarded 1st Place Drug detection K-9 at the 22nd annual Southern Coast K-9 Drug and Bomb Detection seminar beating over 50 other K-9 teams from around the county. On November 17th, 2021, K-9 Endo was awarded his second purple heart after he was shot twice while apprehending an armed felon. On March 6th, 2024, K-9 Endo was awarded the Animals in War and Peace “Medal of Bravery” in the Nations Capital where he was presented the award by U.S. Representative Gus Bilirakis of Florida’s 12th district.

Working K9s perform a variety of occupations alongside their Handlers ensuring our public is safe from threats or danger, along with protecting our country domestically and abroad. They are typically classified as equipment with their medical needs NO longer funded once their service is completed. Often times they have accelerated health issues like hip dysplasia or PTSD as a result of their years in the field.

Paws of Honor is a nonprofit providing continued quality routine and specialized veterinary care to ALL retired Military and Law Enforcement K9s no matter the department, agency, or branch of service at no cost to the Handler who becomes financially responsible for them upon retirement. Through Paws of Honor’s Veterinary Affiliates continued medical care is provided to each retired K9 enrolled in our Veterinary Care Program.
