K9 Enzo is a retired (2020) patrol/narcotics K9 who served for the Fairfax County Police,VA. He began his training at just 1 year old. He proved to be a good tracker and very good at finding narcotics. His tenure with the department concluded with being assigned to the department’s SWAT team as well as his usual patrol duties. K9 Enzo retired because of issues with arthritis in his front shoulders. He has been enjoying retirement with his handler and their move to SC. Arthritis does so much better in warmer weather!
Working K9s perform a variety of occupations alongside their Handlers ensuring our public is safe from threats or danger, along with protecting our country domestically and abroad. They are typically classified as equipment with their medical needs NO longer funded once their service is completed. Often times they have accelerated health issues like hip dysplasia or PTSD as a result of their years in the field.
Paws of Honor is a nonprofit providing continued quality routine and specialized veterinary care to ALL retired Military and Law Enforcement K9s no matter the department, agency, or branch of service at no cost to the Handler who becomes financially responsible for them upon retirement. Through Paws of Honor’s Veterinary Affiliates continued medical care is provided to each retired K9 enrolled in our Veterinary Care Program.
