K9 Ivan was born in 2017 in Ukraine and served the citizens of Springfield from 2018-2023 Due to medical concerns he is being retired early He was purchased from the Von Liche Kennel with donated funds from the Springfield Police Foundation During his career, K9 Ivan was deployed 405 times and was responsible for 38 misdemeanor and felony arrests and numerous narcotic finds K9 Ivan is known for his ability know when it was time to work and time to play and enjoyed hogging the attention at squad briefings K9 Ivan was an outstanding police dog and his In retirement, K9 Ivan will reside with me He will enjoy playing fetch, long walks, and getting to cuddle on the couch with his mom.
Working K9s perform a variety of occupations alongside their Handlers ensuring our public is safe from threats or danger, along with protecting our country domestically and abroad. They are typically classified as equipment with their medical needs NO longer funded once their service is completed. Often times they have accelerated health issues like hip dysplasia or PTSD as a result of their years in the field.
Paws of Honor is a nonprofit providing continued quality routine and specialized veterinary care to ALL retired Military and Law Enforcement K9s no matter the department, agency, or branch of service at no cost to the Handler who becomes financially responsible for them upon retirement. Through Paws of Honor’s Veterinary Affiliates continued medical care is provided to each retired K9 enrolled in our Veterinary Care Program.
