K9 JD was part the Guiding Eyes Foundation when they discovered he was not a good fit for the organization. Thats when the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) picked him up and found his calling. JD was part of the explosive detection program with ATF from age 1 until retirement in 2023. He participated in several National Security Events in the National Capital Region to include the Marine Corp Marathon, and searched 1000's of vehicles and packages within his career. Since his last day of work, he discovered that a recliner with a view of the TV is his favorite spot to lay. He loves keeping an eye on the children at home as if its his new job and will eat any treat that comes his way.

Working K9s perform a variety of occupations alongside their Handlers ensuring our public is safe from threats or danger, along with protecting our country domestically and abroad. They are typically classified as equipment with their medical needs NO longer funded once their service is completed. Often times they have accelerated health issues like hip dysplasia or PTSD as a result of their years in the field.

Paws of Honor is a nonprofit providing continued quality routine and specialized veterinary care to ALL retired Military and Law Enforcement K9s no matter the department, agency, or branch of service at no cost to the Handler who becomes financially responsible for them upon retirement. Through Paws of Honor’s Veterinary Affiliates continued medical care is provided to each retired K9 enrolled in our Veterinary Care Program.
