Jack is a retired Patrol Explosive Detector dog that served in the United States Army until he was nine. He retired due to rapidly progressing arthritis that left him unable to be mission capable. Jack served the people of Fort Leonard Wood, MO faithfully by providing law enforcement assistance as well as anti terrorism measures for the majority of his service life. He also occasionally supported the United States Secret Service on over 10 missions all over the United States, during which he ensured the safety of multiple Presidents and other VIP's. In 2018 Jack deployed to support combat operations in Afghanistan. There he supported Infantry, Engineer and Special Forces units from multiple NATO allies. Jack earned his Combat Action Badge and eventually returned safely with his Handler. Jack now enjoys retirement with his Handler in San Antonio Texas, his favorite place is the couch next to his partner. His absolute favorite treat is Deer or wild hog Jerky that his owner makes specifically for him. He still enjoys daily walks and very short sessions of detection. While bite work was his favorite, his joints don't much like it anymore. Kept me and hundreds of people safe in Afghanistan. He prevented incidents, that would've almost guaranteed, ended with multiple people dead.

Working K9s perform a variety of occupations alongside their Handlers ensuring our public is safe from threats or danger, along with protecting our country domestically and abroad. They are typically classified as equipment with their medical needs NO longer funded once their service is completed. Often times they have accelerated health issues like hip dysplasia or PTSD as a result of their years in the field.

Paws of Honor is a nonprofit providing continued quality routine and specialized veterinary care to ALL retired Military and Law Enforcement K9s no matter the department, agency, or branch of service at no cost to the Handler who becomes financially responsible for them upon retirement. Through Paws of Honor’s Veterinary Affiliates continued medical care is provided to each retired K9 enrolled in our Veterinary Care Program.
