Paws of Honor has joined forces with Hurricane’s Heroes to help retired Military and Law Enforcement working K9s across the country receive the veterinary care they deserve!

Jack is a very healthy and happy eleven-year-old Dutch Shepard. He came to me the same month my twins were born in 2016, so he has always been with them. Jack started his career with the Tucson Sector Border Patrol Tactical Unit (BORTAC) in 2016. Jacks mission in Tucson was primarily supporting the teams on the ground in the field and high-risk search warrants. In 2018 we transferred to the Detroit Sector Special Operations Detachment. While serving on the Detroit team, Jacks primary mission was supporting the entry team during high-risk search warrants and safely clearing structures with the entry team during their movements. Jack had a successful career on the southern and northern borders with multiple field deployments and several physical apprehensions. Jack retired at the age of nine and a half after a great career. He’s always been a part of our family since he entered service, but now he’s able to just be a dog. Jack enjoys long off leash walks with the family and going to the twins BMX races where everyone is always giving him attention. Our twins as well as the kids in the neighborhood are always climbing all over him and playing tug of war with his favorite tug toys. He’s always by our side and has always made the family feel safe.

Working K9s perform a variety of occupations alongside their Handlers ensuring our public is safe from threats or danger, along with protecting our country domestically and abroad. They are typically classified as equipment with their medical needs NO longer funded once their service is completed. Often times they have accelerated health issues like hip dysplasia or PTSD as a result of their years in the field.

Paws of Honor is a nonprofit providing continued quality routine and specialized veterinary care to ALL retired Military and Law Enforcement K9s no matter the department, agency, or branch of service at no cost to the Handler who becomes financially responsible for them upon retirement. Through Paws of Honor’s Veterinary Affiliates continued medical care is provided to each retired K9 enrolled in our Veterinary Care Program.
