Born in July 2013, K9 Lady served as an Military Working Dog in the United States Air Force for almost six years. She was trained as a single purpose K9 in Explosive Detection, and worked at Fairchild Air Force Base, which is located about 12 miles from Spokane, Washington. During her time at work, she served on two United States Secret Service missions; one to San Diego and another to Japan. She also responded to three off-base bomb threats.
K9 Lady, or "Lady Bug," as her handler, now owner, likes to call her, is a loving, goofy dog, who still acts like a puppy. She is full of energy, enjoys playing fetch, and is learning how to swim during her retirement!
Working K9s perform a variety of occupations alongside their Handlers ensuring our public is safe from threats or danger, along with protecting our country domestically and abroad. They are typically classified as equipment with their medical needs NO longer funded once their service is completed. Often times they have accelerated health issues like hip dysplasia or PTSD as a result of their years in the field.
Paws of Honor is a nonprofit providing continued quality routine and specialized veterinary care to ALL retired Military and Law Enforcement K9s no matter the department, agency, or branch of service at no cost to the Handler who becomes financially responsible for them upon retirement. Through Paws of Honor’s Veterinary Affiliates continued medical care is provided to each retired K9 enrolled in our Veterinary Care Program.
K9 Lady is sponsored by Landrey, a little girl with a big heart from Texas. Landrey loves all animals, especially police and military dogs. On Christmas morning, 2021, Landrey woke up and found a letter from Santa with a framed picture of K9 Lady! In the letter, Santa explained how important K9 Lady was and that he was trusting Landrey to take care of his friend. Landrey now sleeps with that picture next to her bed and has a stuffed German Shepherd named Lady.
